Judith,
You might try contacting the South Caroliniana Library at the University of
South Carolina. I don't have the URL but they can be accessed through the
University website. Their archives contain many family papers.

Hello,
Does anyone know who holds -- or from whom or where I might pursue copies of -- the "plantation record books" and/or "diaries" of Col. Whitfield Butler BROOKS Sr. (b. 1789, d. 28 December 1851)?
Several references to those record books/diaries were made by Orville Vernon Burton in his book "In My Father's House There Are Many Mansions: Family & Community in Edgefield, South Carolina." When that book was published in 1985, the documents I am seeking were in the possesion of the BROOKS family.
