James sounds like a son of John Bynum Kyzer and Martha Rawl. They Are on the 1880 census in Lexington with sons Calvin and Paul B., and maybe other children as well. (I haven't see the page itself yet.)
This Paul B. is almost certainly Paul Bynum Kyser, the father of James Kern "Kay" Kyser, the WWII-era bandleader
