Mrs. Gibbs died Saturday. Born in Williamsburg Co., she was a daughter of

BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. - Michael Chavis, 51, of Bennettsville, formerly of
Gibson, N.C., died Tuesday, April 12, 2005.
Mr. Chavis was an Army veteran.
Services: Funeral, 11 a.m. Friday in Gibson Pentecostal Holiness Church in
Gibson. Burial in Pinecrest Cemetery in Gibson.

N.C.

BENNETTSVILLE - Patricia Chavis Thomas, age 55, died February 31, 2005. Born
in Marlboro County, she was the daughter or Irene Kirsey Mayes and the late
Henry Rufus Chavis. She was a former manager of the Super 10 in Cheraw. She
was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her mother, Irene K. Mayes, Boca Raton, FL; one daughter, Beth
Norris of Chesterfield, S.C.; one son, Tim Thomas of Lumberton, N.C.; one
brother, Charles Chavis of Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Ginger England of
Carmichael, Sara
LAKE VIEW -Mrs. Sara Jo Carmichael, 78, died Friday, April 22, 2005, in
Loris Community Hospital after an illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at First
Baptist Church of Lake View. Burial will follow in Lake View Perpetual
Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the home
of Mrs. Carmichaels niece, Kathy Smith, 308 S. Main St., Lake View, directed

FLORENCE -BENNETTSVILLE-Leonora Rene Sligh Commander died Wednesday, April
6, 2005, at Southland Health Care Center after a long illness. She was 85.
She was born in Bennettsville, the daughter of the late Charles Eric Sligh
and Sara McLaurin Sligh. Mrs. Commander attended Coker College and was a
member of First Presbyterian Church.
She was married to the late Joseph M. Commander Jr., and is survived by a
daughter, Sally Commander Heath (A.T. III) of Mt. Pleasant; two sons, Joseph

MCCOLL, S.C. - Norman Wesley "Doug" Barfield, 59, of McColl, formerly of
Laurinburg, N.C., died Tuesday, April 5, 2005.
Mr. Barfield was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He was
self-employed in demolition construction.
Services: Funeral, 2 p.m. Saturday in Piney Plains Baptist Church in McColl.
Burial in Old Hillside Cemetery in Laurinburg.

Mr. McDonald, 89, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005 in Dundee Nursing Home.
Born in Marietta, NC, March 31, 1916, he was the son of the late William Asa
McDonald and Minnie Adams McDonald. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran and was a
retired Farmer.

I made a mistake in previous message on this. I double checked the name and it is Benjamin and James Stean/Steen That is in the 1840 Census of Marlboro County.
Benjamin and James are in the 50 to 60 age range.

I am curious if anyone is lurking that has direct paternal link to either Benjamin or William Steen from 1840.
Reason I am curious my suspicion as to who my oldest paternal male link received his surname from his mother. His mother had 4 girls and 1 boy. With this knowledge I then got into genetic genealogy to see if I could find a match in Y-DNA through direct paternal link. HILTON HEAD ISLAND - Bennettsville-Dillon-Margaret McInnis (Peggy) Martin,
wife of Gene Martin, 63, died Sunday, April 17, 2005 at her home following a
valiant battle with cancer. She was born January 2, 1942: the daughter of
the late John Duncan McInnis and Alice Campbell McInnis.
She grew up in the Carolina Community and Dillon and moved to Beaufort
County in 1969. She was involved in numerous civic and charitable
organizations over the years, as well as being a loving wife, mother,

Born in Marlboro County he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Chavis
Wright. He was a retired construction worker. He is survived by his
daughter, Mary Wright of McColl; one son, John Archie Wright of Charlotte,
NC; three brothers, Elijah Wright of Augusta, GA and Marvin Wright and
Charles P. Wright, both of Bennettsville; 3 grandchildren. Funeral services
