There is a correction is what the gentleman told you they have the records of
the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and the United Methodist Church, which
are under the Methodist church which runs Wofford College. The Southern
Methodist Church is a totally different organization and has its headquarters
in Orangebury South Carolina, The Southern Methodist Church, some of the
buildings were Methodist Episcopal Church South before the formation of the
Southern Methodist Church. I believe all the chu

Hi y'all,
A researcher is looking for help with his Dillon-Marlboro ancestors
and I wondered if any of you who research the SMITH or LEE surnames
have come across this family.
James W. SMITH b. 1853 (probably Marlboro Co. )
d. 1917 in Dillon Co., buried Mt. Holly
wife, Isabelle LEE, b. 1864
(I think I have this correct but there were two dates for an Isabell(e/a) Lee
listed; possibly two different people?)
There are more details for this family on the Marlboro County Bibles page:
Victoria, Thomas Boatwright, my ggrandfather, is listed on the Confed Army
Volunteers from Marion as his wife being Lavenia. His wife, in fact, is
Louisa Wiggins and their daughter is Lavenia, my grandmother who is buried in
the Wiggins Burying Ground in Georgetown County.
Also, my internet address is FBothwell@aol.com.
I don't know who is responsible for correcting this; would you be so kind as
to let me know how to get it corrected?
Thank you, Fran in ABQ

Hi,
I am attempting to find if the Beauty Spot Methodist Church is still in
existence, and if it is, does anyone know the address? I could not find
it on a list of churches in Marlboro County. The early days of this
church are described in some detail in Thomas's "A History of Marlboro
County." I am trying to locate the records of the early Methodist
Churches in Marlboro District, looking to see where the JONES and
SINCLAIR families were members.

Tom,
You might get in touch with Phillip Stone who is the
Archivist at the Sandor Teszler Library at Wofford in Spartanburg,
SC. They have all the Southern Methodist records, including the whole
state of South Carolina. I have had occasion to contact him about Marion
County churches and, while there are lamentably few records remaining, he
has been very helpful.
(Victoria, and others with an interest in St. Paul's Methodist in Little
Rock - there is nothing at all! He has,

I am doing work on the family of Angus and Catherine McDonald. He was born
Skye, Scotland, ca. 1769. Lived in Richmond county North Carolina. Had a
grand son Claiborn(e) McDonald who attended Bennettsville Academy sometime

Hi y'all,
Please note that this obit is from Helen Lane Carmichael who has
been kind enough to send these along to the Marion list. With
Helen's permission, I am going to forward all the "Marlboro" obits.
If you're on the Marion list, my apologies for the duplication but there
are a number of folks who are not on both lists and these may be
very helpful. The Subject line will look the same for all of them -

H,
Thanks for the email. You solved the mystery. Even the archivist at the
Wofford College Methodist Archives didn't know what became of Beauty
Spot. Do you know if any old records survived at the church?
