This may be a stupid question, but could someone explain what a probate court record is?? I sent away for it, but what I received is something that has my ancestors names listed but I'm unsure what to do with this record. Without knowing who your ancestors are and what the document says I cannot tell you too much. The probate is how the court distributes both real and personal property after the death of a person. If the person dies intestate (without a will) then property is distributed as per the laws of the state, and probate will acknowledge all heirs. If the person has a will, he may not have mentioned certain heirs for whatever reason, so for that reason, intestate probate is somewhat better for those of us who are l
