If looking for South Union Church and coming from the Interstate, look for a
sign pointing to Chickasaw Point Golf Course...that is South Union Rd. The
church is in the fork of the road two miles down. If interested in Mt.
Pleasant (old Black Jack church)...keep going down Highway 11 for another
five miles and Blackjack Rd. is on the left. If you hit a bridge going
under Highway 24, you went a half mile too far.

There is a film you can order from the LDS Family History Ctr which has cemetery
extractions from Oconee SC. It is a book that was filmed. If you go to the
familysearch.org website you can search on Oconee SC and find it under cemeteries.

Hi Linda,
You and I corresponded some time back, and I sent you some obits on the
Goodman family. I saw your query about James Goodman, and the fact that he
died ca 1994 or 95, and was buried at Union Baptist Church. I just
wondered if you have contacted that church? If he died that recently, and
had ties to that church, then the pastor or certainly someone in the church
should have known him. It might just give you a number of people to
contact. Just a thought.
Take care,
Bunnie Gilmer
I am looking for a great aunt who is supposedly buried in the South Union
Bapt. Cemetery.
Does anyone on the list live close to this cemetery?
Perhaps you could give directions? I live in Athens, GA ... and would like
to come by there on my next trip up that way.
Thanks,
Karen
I think I put this on before, but I am interested in the South Union Baptist
Cemetery. My father, James (Jimmy) Goodman is buried there. He was married
to a Hix. His parents were Effie Harris Goodman and Harry Goodman. I had
never met my father and am very, very interested in speaking to someone about
him. Any info. would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help. I've heard from a couple of people and found the web sites for Cemeteries listed in this group.
Just so you know why I asked, I'm trying to find descendants of Lewis Cromer, b. 1809 in Newberry Co., died 1882 in Anderson Co. I know many of them (including my wife's family) moved up to Seneca and the surrounding area.
Thanks again.

Vol I was published in September 1983.
I do not have the date on Vol II. The two people who read
the inscriptions are both deceased. B. W. Roach died 13 Jan
1998 and his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Lee Roach died 24 August
1998.

Dear List Members, This site was shared with me today and I am thrilled
with it. If you have or might have ancestors who were from Virginia,
you need to check this one out. Plan on spending some time. There is a

Here is another one of those great map sites. This one is for the U.S.
Census and shows how the counties changed shape from census year to
census year. I found it very interesting.

Perhaps I can add something more specific to the ongoing discussion.
While visiting my daughter in Rock Hill several years ago, I visited
their library's outstanding local history room and discovered a TWO
volume set of "Oconee County, South Carolina, Cemetery Survey" books,
which were compiled by the
Pendleton Chapter, South Carolina Genealogical Society in 1983.
As an example, Volume One (over 265 pages) covered 60 cemeteries, and
included an annotated county map, indicating the
general location of the
