Katrina,
If you have a regular road map of Scotland to help find the correct
area, these maps can really be interesting to browse.
Good luck with your search.

Hi Katrina
While it's earlier than the time you mention, McPhun's 1835 Western
Tourists Steamboat Pocket Guide on line at
http://cookfmly.rootsweb.com/mcphun1835/ will give you a good idea of
the importance of Steamers for travel in Argyll, especially with the
limited and much delayed coming of rail access.

My great great grandmother Margaret MACFARLANE was born in 1809 in

This FREECENS project is well under way with a band of volunteers tackling
the transcribing for every parish. The transcribing for North Berwick is
completed already and we are looking for more volunteers to undertake the
checking.
Any lister interested in helping in that way please contact me off list at

Hi Les,
That's great thanks. I'm particularly looking for Walter Ketchin who appears
to have been the farm manager at Ashfield. He was killed trying to cross
Loch-na-creig-grande on 22 Dec. 1855 aged 30yrs. Any chance of a press
report do you think ?
Regards and grateful thanks.
Roy
P.S. Your own adress is bouncing so I've come through the list.
Sorry each, spelt the email address wrong.

Your question about the distance between Inveraray and Kilmelford and how one
would get from one to the other is one which is not answered by looking at a
modern map because in this part of the world the modern roads actually take
the long way round. Before the age of the motor car. From Kilmelford one
would have gone across country (There is still a driveable road) to Loch Awe
which one would have crossed by a ferry, which then existed, to
Portinnisherrich and taken the route over the hills
According to our family records, our Janet Leitch was "from Glenorchy", and
married John MacKinnon around 1788. So I'm guessing she was the one
christened 13 October 1771 in Kilchrenan (the next parish), daughter of
Angus Leetch and Anne MacArthur. (This is from the IGI -- I haven't verified
it yet with REAL records!)
Siblings appear to be Effie, John, Janet, Donald, Anne and Peter.
However, another Janet was born in Glassary, christened 14 July 1769.
Maybe this is the family you are looking for?

An elderly aunt has suggested to me that my 4xg grandfather was born at Correvullin, Ardnamurchan.
I can't find such a place on the map but perhaps someone can suggest what it might have been. The only other clues I have are that he is supposed to have been a joiner and boatbuilder; and I know the birth of one of his children shows in the OPR as at Acharacle.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

To All,
Would the Caledoniam Canal have been the kind of project to attract
workmen from various areas? I've been trying to trace McClardy ancestor from
"between Fort William and Inverness" who, along with a brother attended an
engineering school of sorts (allegedly in Inverness) prior to emmgrating to
US around 1850's.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi list,
I am looking to make contact and swap info with anyone on the list who may
also be researching Leitchs in Tarbert,Loch Fyne, or Inveraray, or Glassary.
I am trying to find the parents of John Leitch and his brother Duncan Leitch
who arrived in Tarbert,Loch Fyne from Inveraray in 1820. His family may have
been living near Inveraray Castle. John and his brother would have been born
about 1800. John married a Catharine Carmichael in 1828,in Tarbert and
Duncan married a Catharine Macfarlane arou
