Sarah - If you get minute could you give a quick look for the following family :-
William Campbell b.24 Mar 1750 ( son of a James Campbell & Finuel Morrison )married on
10 May 1780 at Southend a Mary McLarty. The family ( that I have )consisted of an
Isobel Campbell b.1 Mar 1782, Mary Campbell b. 11 May 1784, Margaret C. b. 19 Jun 1788
& James C. b. 8 Jun 1791 - hoping that those names may point you in the right direction.
Mary b. 1784 married into our Campbells at Kilmore.

Sarah,
Would you please check for a Duncan Sinclair and wife Christian/Christine
and also an Archibald Sinclair and wife (name unknown). My ancestor, John
Sinclair, was born on October 8, 1777 in Glenorchy, Argyll, Scotland. We
believe his parents may be either Duncan and Christian Sinclair or
Archibald Sinclair and _____. John Sinclair probably had a sister named
Mary who was born about 1775 as she is living with his family in Robeson
County, North Carolina, USA in 1850.
A John Sinclair was christene
I forgot to add that Peova is actually Peoria, Illinois and I think
someone is getting James McNeil's death certificate for me which may
reveal the names of his wife and daughter.

In 1831 there was a cholera epidemic throughout Britain, reaching as far north as Inverness, and there were Scarlet Fever outbreaks in 1849 and outbreaks of diarrhoea and gastric fever in 1866. Though whether the latter reached Argyll I can't say.

First of all, there were no Malcolms, just McCallums at that time, and there
were so many Archibalds that the wife's name, which you provided, is the
best way to distinguish them. Unfortunately there was no Mary McLucas or any
similar name in the listing.
There were just two Malcolm McCallums, both married to other women.
Sorry that this was not fruitful on this occasion

Hi List
Just been reading the Old Statistical Account for Roseneath in Dunbartonshire and found the following in the section at the end headed Miscellaneous Observations. It's nice to see that at least one 18th Century Minister had a sense of humour :
"Here rats cannot exist : Many of these have, at different times, been accidentally imported from vessels lying upon the shore : but were never known to exist more than 12 months in the place. From a prevailing opinion, that the soil in this parish is ho
Archibald McGill was my four greats grandfather. Ann Stewart was his second
wife. I am descended from his second wife Jane Smylie.
I maintain a web site with genealogy information on my McGill family. Ann
Stewart, and Jean McGill, are on it. The address of their page is:
http://home.comcast.net/~brucemcgill/archibaldm2a.htm
My information says that Ann was born in Carradale on the Kintyre Peninsula
in Argyllshire, not Perthshire. Carradale is a long way from Balquhidder,
even today.
Just two McGougans in the index, neither too promising, but extracted just
in case they lead to something useful

Angus Campbell, 36
Anabela McGougan, 32
Mary Campbell, 6
Angus Campbell, 3
Margaret Campbell, 1

Donald Blue, 36
Mary McBride, 30
Archibald McGougan, 10
Note, however, that household boundaries are by no means clear in the
listing, so there is no guarantee that Archibald is related in any way to
Donald Blue and Mary McBride, or even associated
Hi Sarah,
Thank you so much for taking the time to look for Lauchlan McNeil.
One of these days I hope to find this very elusive man.
I appreciate your time and effort
Thank you.

I concluded a message to the list a couple of days ago by saying that in
genealogy research "What goes around comes around" and your message has
provided an excellent example!
The last item on your list concerned Alexander Muir, which caught my
attention as my husband is a Muir from Campbeltown.
My husband had a great-uncle Alex Muir, from Campbeltown who, to quote my
father-in-law, "spent most of his life in North America... and was superbly
fit - so much so that his own brother stop
Hi Sarah
As you say that family may not have been on the Dukes Land, anyway thanks
very much for taking the time to look for them, you have been very busy over
the last couple of weeks, I have watched with great admiration, and I also
admire your personal knowledge of all those small farms and remote places in
Kintyre.
Thanks again.

The estates in Kilmichael Glassary, which until 1830 included Lochgilphead,
were not (the Duke of) Argyll's.

Dear Sarah
I would like to take advantage of your kind offer and request a look up to
see if there is a mention of Archibald M, born abt 4th June 1723 in Jura or
his son after their name was Anglicised, Malcolm Malcolm, born abt. 26th
December 1752 in Kilfinen, Argyllshire. If it is any help, Archibald was
married to Mary McLucas. Malcolm was married to Mary Ann Flemming.
Thank you very much

If burials did not take place at Eilean Munde in the late 1700s, early 1800s
(so far as the recorded MIs can attest) for families that resided in Glen
Etive and Ardchattan generally, where else may they have taken place,
please, and to what extent have MIs been recorded?
We have interest in families and events at DALNESS, INVERCHARNAN,
BALEVEOLIN, DRUIMAVUIC that we know of.
Thanks in advance

Hi Jenny,
Sorry no help to you but I have Barbara MacLauren who married Thomas Stout
in Lerwick, Shetland 28 September 1783. I have no idea where she came from
but I don't think it was a Shetland name. She died 20 May 1835 at Lerwick,
age 85 which implies she was born about 1750 ?
I did find a Samuel MacLaren christened 22nd April 1754 at Lerwick, father
Daniel MacLaren, otherwise have drawn a blank.

Peter

This is in fact Tynribbie [GB Grid Ref NM 938 461] It is at the junction
of the Connel - Ballachulish road (A828) and the (unclassified) Appin to
Port Appin road. It was the location for the school and is where the

Hello Cathy
I know there are lots of MacFarlanes - I have a couple - so - just in case!!
John MacFarlane born about 1810 - don't know where - married Jane Marquis.
He had a son John born abt 1840, and maybe other children. This son is my
2C2. ( I think that's how one writes second cousin twice removed!!) I still
havemore research to do on this family.
Just MAYBE there's a connection??? - they lived at Knockderry on the
Roseneath peninsula. She died in Greenock 1878.

There was a Daniel McMurchy, aged 5, living in, it appears, the household of

And at The Backs, near Campbeltown, a Daniel and a James - the only James

Hi Wilma,
We have discussed this before! Can I ask you to tell me again the age
span of your Lachlan McNeill? I have a gggg-uncle (so I believe) on
Gigha. He was a mariner and, according to the Gigha Kirk Session
minutes, fathered at least 5 children by a Mary Graham who lived in
somewhat deprived circumstances. He finally was persuaded by the
Session to marry Mary in 1796 shortly (like minutes or hours) after
she delivered their last (I think) baby!
His name was Donald McNeill and as yet I have onl
Just a quick reminder to say that I'd appreciate it if you could get any
final requests to me by mid-day on 7th January, and I'll do my best to
respond by the end of the 8th January. As mentioned in previous messages, it
is helpful to have as much information as possible, including first names,
ages and/or spouses, especially if the surname is one of the common ones
such as McCallum, McMillan or Campbell.
I should probably also give a couple of words of warning about the data -
The data I have posted has
Hi All
Has anyone any knowledge of epidemics in the Kilmore Oban area that might explain the following deaths ? or has anyone deaths that would appear to have been around the same times ?.
In one family and those individuals are all aged between 20 - 27.

John MacDougall died 10 later 12 May 1844 then two other brothers.
