Hallo,
Does anyone have an email address for Lynn Clarke please?? I need to get in
touch with him re a book on the McPhaiden family he wrote some years ago.
Thanks

The Old Parish Registers (OPR) are key resource documents for
everybody searching for their British ancestors. So I am very
pleased to announce that today's addition to the Tiree Genealogy
website is an index of all the marriages in the Tiree Old Parish
Registers, i.e. from 1766 to 1854. The indexing project was
initiated 20 or more years ago by our Canadian cousins and has
involved a number of people along the way. It has now been brought
to fruition through the efforts of Lynn Clark and Louise M
A recent addition to the Tiree Genealogy Website (www.keithdash.net)
is a page where you can see which families are heing researched at
the Homecoming, and who you can contact about these families. From
the Homepage click on the "Tiree Homecoming 2006" link, then on the
"Research List" link.
These are 2 pages that anyone can print off to keep as future
reference, not just 'Homecomers'.
If you are a 'Homecomer' but your name is not on the list, please

Dear Tiree Listers,
Many thanks to all of you who already have submitted photos for the Emigration Exhibition being mounted by the Tiree Archive this year. A few photos are still needed from these specific locations in Ontario:
1. Bruce Township
2. Osprey Township
3. MacIntyreo?=s Corner
4. Russelldale
The Archive prefers old photos, but new photos that include old buildings, farms, homesteads, etc. are fine too.
The scanning instructions are:
- 300 resolution
- 100% (same size as original photo)

Slightly off-topic, but in preparing for my upcoming trip to Scotland, does
anyone have any thoughts on cell phone coverage on Mull, Tiree and on
mainland Argyllshire? I have looked at the T-Mobile and other provider's
coverage maps and they are not particularly illuminating.
Secondly, has anyone had any experience with a blackberry for data in these
areas?
I know, its a vacation, but... where would we be without them?
Thanks,
Ken MacCallum
Hi Louise,
I can hardly believe that The Gathering is so close that you are now
preparing to leave Canada for Scotland. I wish you a very comfortable and
pleasant trip and look forward to seeing you on Tiree.
I share with you Louise in sending another big thanks to Keith and to Iain
for the latest addition to Keith's website. How wonderful that The
Gathering has been a focus for all the new research material prepared and
added to Keith's website for those of us looking forward to The Gathering

Dear Fellow Researchers,
By chance I came across this site an I think some of you may find it of interest. I have yet to properly check it out but it looks like a potentially fine resource.

Hi Keith:
Congratulations on your website with all the Tiree references you have made
available to everyone. I hope you've added a "hits counter" to keep track
of all the hits you will be getting. Thank you again for the wonderful
resource of the 1881 "Born-in-Tiree" addition. This is a gold-mine for
those of us who lost track of earlier ancestors.
All the Best,
Ann Hentschel,
Sarnia, Ontario, Canada.
A searchable Excel database of the 1881 Tiree census has been added
to the Tiree Genealogy website at www.keithdash.net. From the
Homepage click on the Tiree Censuses link. Also, the 1881
Born-in-Tiree database has been updated and now includes all of Britain.

Hi Ken,
So far as mobile 'phones are concerned, Tiree is not marvellous as there
are areas of good cover and pockets where it is not so good. It all
depends on your provider I think. My provider is Vodaphone and it is not
too good although my sons both use O2 and it is much better. I am sure
someone will point you in the right direction. However there is email
access at An Iodhlann and at An Talla (where the Genealogy Room is being
set up).
While writing I am taking the opportunity of asking if you are
Great work, Keith.
It's equally important to have access to the records where Tiree folk moved within the UK as outside of the UK. When a person "disappears" from Tiree, it's just as hard to find them on the Scottish mainland as it is to find them far overseas.
This is a most useful addition for Tiree researchers and, as you say, let's hope that other databases come available to expand this "Born-In-Tiree" section of the website in the future.
Thanks so much for your continuing efforts to make http:/

the Tiree Genealogy website at www.keithdash.net, where notices and
reports will be posted in the days leading up to A'Bhuain and
afterwards when we return to our homelands and think of the questions
we should have asked but didn't, or something we wished we had said

Society in 1964. It is a collection of letters between the
chamberlains of the Argyll Estates and the 5th Duke of Argyll
relating to the management of the estates. The letters cover a wide
range of matters, including incidents, land improvements, sales of
farm produce, orders for timber, accounts of woods supplied, and

Keith, what a wonderful resource the 1881 is!
Thank you so much for getting it online before the Homecoming so we
"Homecomers" can do some of our HOMEwork ahead of time.
Also the inclusion of the rest of the "Born in Tiree" folk will solve a few
puzzles about those ancestors who seem to disappear into thin air at the
time of the census.
Your website is becoming a veritable gold mine for Tiree family historians!

Thank you Les and if I have not already done so, there is also this site for the Brigham Young Univ. which has been putting their collection of family histories on the web. There are over 170,000 and they plan to add 5,000 a year.
I have been using the bottom search box so that I can find my names in all the books. Here is the site:

Hi Tiree Listers,
There is a little article about the 2006 Tiree and Mull Gatherings in this
weeks Scottish Snippets.
Also some mention of 2009 being the Year of the Scottish Homecoming in that
item and in the item about the regeneration of Burns National Heritage Park.
2009 marks the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Robbie Burns.
If you are not familiar with Scottish Snippets, let me recommend it to you
as a real gem, not just for folk in Scotland, but also for those of us

Thanks Keith, it looks like it turned out great on the website.
Here's a couple handy hints for researchers using the data:
1. To save a copy of the whole file to your computer, look for the "floppy disk" icon on the far left (just above the little hand). Click on the floppy disk and choose where you want to save the file to, then click Save. You'll see that it is a rather small file, about 150 kbs, considering the amount of data it contains.
2. To insert a piece of the data into another document on y
Keith, what a wonderful thing you have done for those of us of the Diaspora.
I was very interested to see as well as the new Mull connection and Scotland
connection information on those born on Tiree, an updated newsletter with
information about the Homecoming..The news about the weather in Australia has
been alarming. Hope you and yours are safe and dry.
All the Best and deepest thanks,

yes, it did read MacDonald. We were Macs at one time, then it changed thanks
to my great great grandad. So I always look at both. Interesting to me that
there were so many similarities in the family you sent and my own. I'm sure
they are the same line, I just wish I could figure out how and where they
fit together.
