I am interested in finding out any information about my Great
Grandfather and his family.
What I know is as follows:
John Cameron moved from Cromdale aera of Scotland to Greenend, Liberton
around the start the 1900's. He was shown on the 1901 cencus as a
market gardener married to Annie Bird and they had 3 children (Peter,
Lewis and Catherine).
My Grandfather James Russell Cameron was born later (1912) in Leith I
think.
If anyone has any information about any of these people I'd love to hear

Mark - The 1912 Birth Indexes show James Russell CAMERON to have been born in South
Leith, entry #1392. If you order that certificate or get someone to do a transcription
it has to be the right one...its the only James Russell CAMERON born that year anywhere
in Scotland

Would anyone be able to find out any details recorded on the certificate. I think it could be my ggggrandparents but not absolutely sure.
Also, I know I am a greenhorn, but could someone please tell me what the Batch Number on LDS Source Information indicates and also Source C

On an 1878 will which I recently downloaded , an executor, James Turnbull ,
is said to be a printer, of 28 Scotland Street, Edinburgh. I have an idea
where this is, but wonder if that would have been his home or business
address. Anyone care to hazard a guess ? The only person of this name and
occupation I can find on the 1881 census is in Corstorphine.

I am looking for families named Culross or Calross living in Edinburgh
during the 1830-1880's. There are very few Culross/ Calross families
anywhere, most in Fife Scotland. A search for that name or word finds
mostly places in Scotland or Canada.
Amanda Culross/Calross was born somewhere around 1835 in Edinburgh and
emigrated to the US. I can find no trace of her in Scotland.
The only Culross/Calross I can find in Edinburgh Census, during that
time frame was Margaret Culross b October 1810 in Ta
If you have relatives who are buried in Morningside Cemetery in
Edinburgh, you may be interested in the following news.
Edinburgh City Council is in the process of making their cemeteries
"safer" by "laying flat" stones which they consider to be unsteady. So
far, over a quarter of the stones which have been inspected in various
cemeteries have been laid flat, either by pushing them over (resulting in
the breaking of some stones), or by using special equipment.
After *much* protest about the lack of consul

Wonder if any one knows if the fact an ancestor was a royalist soldier and
fought for the Stewart who later became Charles II would indicate the area
from whence he came. It is very difficult to obtain any information that
far back in time. Perhaps this writing is all for naught.

May I say a public Thank You to Forrest Anderson for bringing this to my/our
attention. I have read the reports in The Scotsman, and allowing for
journalist 'speak', it is a sorry tale, but one that will be repeated I'm
sure.
Last year I finally discovered my Scottish great grandparents grave in
Burnley(!) I was lucky enough to be able to visit the cemetery and asked the

Hello everyone,
I would like to try and track down the children of my 2nd great
grandparent's John BROWN and Jane STENHOUSE.
John and Jane had at least 5 children, James Fotheringham Brown born
1866, Annie Brown born 1868, Jessie Dickson Brown born 1870, John Howie
Brown (my grandfather) born 1872 and James Stenhouse Brown born 1874.
All the children were born in Leith.
I realise that the Brown surname is very common but if anyone has a
connection to them it would be good to here from you.
Regards
Ron B
I am looking for any connections to the families of William Armstrong and Jane Brown who married about 1822 and had at least 8 children between 1823 and 1840, and lived at Nottingham Terrace, Greenside, Edinburgh and also John Sinclair and Jean Johnston who married at St Cuthbert's parish and had at least 5 children between 1826 and 1836.
The 2 families inter married.

Dear group members
I have a couple of items that have to be searched for in person in the
Search Room at West Register House, Edinburgh (I have reference numbers). If
there is anyone in Edinburgh who needs records research done in Perth,
Western Australia, can we arrange an exchange?
With thanks and regards

hi Chester,
its surprising how much you can find out about people that far back if you
have one or two clues. if the person was of the wealthier classes you have a
head start.
could you clarify the details of the person you are looking for?
The term "Royalist" tends to imply someone fighting in the mid-17thc for
Charles 1, father of Charles 2.

Your searches are probably turning up references to Culross on the northern
shore of the Firth of Forth.
Its pronounced "queue-russ" and there is some historic property there - in
the care of the National Trust for Scotland or Historic Scotland, not sure
which.
I think it was one of the Scottish Kings who referred to Fife as a "Beggars
Mantle fringed with gold" because of the relatively wealthy trading
communities on the coastline.
Impossible to tell if any one individual came from Culross - the name cou

Hi June, as it happens your possible relatives "married" at St Cuthberts
about a week before mine.
There is no certificate as such of course and in fact their presence in the
register doesnt mean they necessarily married in the parish church as it
includes those whose banns were called but (like mine) married somewhere
else, often because they were not Church of Scotland.
As it happens for this parish register at this date there is a beautiful
index at the front of the book (grooms surname only!), which me
