We can find no proof of birth or death for John in Edinburgh. Using
Scottish researchers (4 years ago), we have pretty much eliminated
Midlothian as his birthplace. Generally, it is believed he came from the

The great majority of men listed served in Scottish regiments but other

I'm looking for information about the family of Edwin MILLIDGE & Sarah WYSE.
Edwin was born in London in the late 1700s / early 1800s, son of Josiah

and settled in Edinburgh where he became a Master Goldsmith & Jeweller with
a shop at No. 28 Princes Street. His two sons followed him in this
profession. At least three of Edwin's siblings, sisters Ann Esther, Sarah
and Mary (all unmarried) also lived in Edinburgh.

Thank you. A nice list of names is always worth a look in case you can
spot anyone.

I'm not familiar with the regiment, and a Google search
It was still listed in 1960/61 - engineers and millwrights. Other 'Bertrams'
companies listed - dont know if they are related, and Employees Recreation

Take your document to Kinko's or any office supply store. Have them
make a Xerox copy, but downsize it to 81/2 by 11. Or do it yourself
on any copy machine.

I am also interested in any listings of Rosebank Cemetery. I have an
ancestor buried there (Helen [HUTTON] BLACKIE, d. 1857, see below) and
am curious about whether there is (still) a stone, and if so, I'd like
to find a way to get a photo.
I am also generally looking for any connections, or clues on where to
look for additional records on this family:

Hi all,
I am wondering whether any members of the list have come across mention
of a ship called the Mary Maria on which members of my family travelled
to the US. We have a sort of idea of what happened when this young
couple reached the States but no idea where they came from other than
that they were from Scotland. Where in Scotland they were from is what
we want to find out!
The Mary Maria was checked into New York from Liverpool on 23 Jan 1834

Piershill was a cavalry barracks, so that restricts the possibilities a

the regiments in particular towns and cities for specific years, says

Good afternoon Rosemary,
There is only one British Registered vessel , bearing the name MARY MARIA
shown in the pre 1857 Merchant Navy Lists.
She was a 97 ton Ketch registered in Grimsby, Yorkshire , which is obviously

My great grandfather, David Thomson, was born in Leith in 1821/2. His father
was James Thomson. I can only find one David Thomson fitting these facts and
born in Leith on 6 May 1821. He was the son of James Thomson and Jane Grieson
who were married 27 May 1816 in South Leith. Jane Grierson doesn't fit other
data that I have found, but I'm ready to discard this data which names Isabella

ancestors were born at Piershill & Jocks Lodge, early 1800's, I never found the
deaths of those that died pre 1855. Could you please possibly repeat the
information.
