Hi - I'm a new poster to this list. Writing to know if anybody has
information about the Coutts and/or Cunninghams in Edinburgh in the
18th Century.
In particular, there was a Marion Cunningham who married John Philp,
a tailor in Leith, in 1774, She was the daughter of Agnes Coutts and
Patrick Cunningham, a wright who lived in a wynd off Castle Hill.
Agnes seems to have been a daughter of Thomas Couts, merchant
burgess, and Isobel Greig.
Does this ring any bells with anybody?

You may find this interesting. I think the orphanage would be the
responsibility of the catholic diocese but I dont know what records
they would have retained.

Hi Sheena,
Unfortunately, I didn't have time to return to Edinburgh to do further
research before leaving for home so am afraid I don't know who Jane
STEWART's parents were.
If it's of any help, Janet ANDERSON was age 28 at time of marriage and lived
at 7 Brighton Street. I assume Jane ANDERSON, a witness, was her sister.
The only other information I have, not included in my previous message, was
that Andrew Matthew BAIRD & Betsy DUNCAN were married in Leven. Betsy's
parents were William DUNCAN & Ca
Hi Andrew,
My mail is not getting through to you - is there a problem?.
Also I have tried 4 times to send a ged to you but they have been returned.
Perhaps the ged is too big to send - it's over 3000k - would this be why?.
Can you suggest something - I'm not too sure about how to send attachments.

Hi Listers,
I'm a new on the scene. I am seeking info about my wife's family - The

Her gmother MARGARET (nee HUNTER) died in 1914 whilst living at 190,

Roman Catholic orphanage. Please would anyone know of an orphanage in or
near Newing
Hi Keith,
The bit you can't read is probably an RCE (record of corrected entries).
These are sometimes minor adjustments made to the original record, such
as a name change, or date correction. In the case of a paternity
question however, it may well be worth looking it up, or having it
looked up, as it sounds in your case like the court's decision on who
the father was. You have to do this at Edinburgh, as these records are
not available online.
You'll want to ask for the RCE Vol1 p5 for the same dis

I have recently had a similar experience, though not identical. As you say you have a "Testament", which is probably "Sworn", it seems likely there was no Will. I received this information about the distribution of Scottish property on death which might be of interest.
Under Scots law moveable property (clothes, furniture, farm stock, crops etc) was disposed of in a will or testament, and heritable property (buildings, land) was disposed of by deed (these records have not been digitised). There were r

This is my first contribution to this list.
I would be grateful for any help with the following question(s), please.
Background
I have the will of William PETERS who was the Minister of Kinross. He
made the will in 1890. He died in 1894. The Probate - is that the right
word for Scottish Wills? - was granted to Margaret Peters and Jessie Ann
