If you haven't already read it - there is a long and interesting write-up
about the origins of several Clans, including the MacQuarries ,on a website,
the address of which escapes me just at the moment.
I will find it for you and send it along later in the meantime here is a
quote from that article that I copied sometime ago.

Hi Toni:
I've read up on the McNabb's of course. There's quite a story about the
clan chief encouraging a group of clanspeople to emigrate to Canada in 1825
after losing the family estate. According to the clan history: 85 men, women &
children arrived at Montreal May 25th 1825. They were mainly from Killin I
think.) McNabb township is on the Ottawa River with a house still standing in
Arnprior. Archibald, the chief, thought he could be the laird in Canada. His

Hi folks,
I recently read that a group of Islay emigrants got sidetracked at Montreal,
Canada, and encouraged to move to McNabb Township around 1800.
I'm having trouble finding out where it is. Anyone able to help?

Duncan and Betsy McGibbon came to Oro Township from Islay in the 1860's
along with Betsy's parents and brothers, the Donald McKay family.
The McGibbons are in the Oro census for 1871 and 1881, then can be found in
Robinson township, Algoma for 1891 and 1901.
They are not my family, but I found them for Flora McAffer, who is connected
to Betsy. There was a big family of McGibbons, and I think there were other
McGibbon families in Algoma as well.

I have a McArthur line from Kilchoman which (I believe) was at Tormisdale
around 1770-80. A daughter, born about 1815, died leaving a husband and
children who went to Troy, New York in the 1860's.

I am trying to trace Malcom McNabb - a crofter married to Christina McDonald - who were parents of Angus McNabb who died in Renfrew in 1921 aged 71. I believe Malcom was one of the 2 below. As I cannot find any record of them marrying or dying on Islay I presume they left as young men to find work. Anyone know what became of them?
