2. [SCT-ISLAY-L] ARIS, HAMILTON, DOUGLAS in Bowmore [1]
Hi all - My dark family secret is that I descend from three generations of Excisemen - two of which were stationed in Bowmore from the 1810s to the 1830s (deepest regrets & profuse apologies for my ancestry to all you single malt fanciers - I will remind you that Bobbie Burns was a "rascally gauger" as well). I have two of my Excisemen being rotated to Bowmore and marrying local girls: Robert HAMILTON married Elizabeth DOUGLAS on November 27, 1811. Their offspring were: Charlotte, Flora Anne, Elizabeth
3. Fw: [SCT-ISLAY-L] Re: McDougall [1]
Hi! I don't have any of the names you mention either, but I do have Alexander McDougall who married Catherine McQueen, b.1844 (d/o Neil McQueen b. 1792 Islay and Margaret Patterson). The McQueens came from Islay to Nottawasaga Twp., Ontario in 1833/34, so this may be where Alexander and Catherine settled, but I'm not sure at this point. 9. [SCT-ISLAY-L] Re: SCT-ISLAY-D Digest V99 #17 [1]
Hi S L McDOUGALL Your search for "John McDOUGALL on the Oa of Islay who married on 6th March 1817, in Kildalton Parish - Janet/Jessie McNab who was born c1806," caught my eye. While I can't make a connection for you, I thought I might throw out my McDOUGALLs for your consideration. I'm looking for two McDOUGALL girls. The first was Mary McDOUGALL, the wife of George KEITH. They may have spent time in the Glasgow/Paisly area but were likely from Islay as their 1st daughter Ann was married there i
