3. Re: [SCT-ISLAY] Glenarm Cemetery, Victoria County, Ontario [1]
Hi Toni: R and Janet Gilchrist are probably Ronald and Janet. When you look from the gate in the cemetery they are to the far left and way to the back of the cemetery. One that I would like to find is Elizabeth (Calder) Gilchrist. She was Ronald's mother and I think she might be buried there. I know she was in Canada. 6. RE: [SCT-ISLAY] Missing link re Carolinas - Islay [1]
John, Thanks for advising us about this interesting website! There's a lot of Islay history there, and can help us get a better overview of the Island in the 1700s. I note some discussion has taken place regarding this subject: This link is a fairly scholarly discussion of the subject as to the reasons for the movement.
9. Marriage Registers [1]
Greetings - I just received a copy of The Marriage Registers of Upper Canada/Canada West, Vol. 7: Part 1, Newcastle District 1810-1848. It was a decided disappointment since it did not include my ancestors. Willing to do any lookups, however. The Intro to the volume describes the various stages of development of Canada and how marriage records were recorded. One of the areas was the Brock District, which was separated from parts of the London District and covers a period from 1839-1857.
10. Glenarm [1]
There remains some confusion about the original cometary. My Uncle John Spence, in an article by the Women's Institute alluded to a cometary on the original Spence property, adjacent to the current cometary. I have been unable to confirm this, but I will be going to the Lindsay registry office when spring affords to see what I can find out. I will also be visiting relatives graves, I probably will not wait to decoration day, whenever that is at this time, typically in June. The family has been talk
11. Red John McArthur [1]
A couple of days ago there was a message here making a reference to "Red" John McArthur. Does anyone know if this was the same John McArthur, of Eldon Township who was married to Katie McMillian and then Mary McArthur? Unfortunately I deleted that posting instead of saving it. Dougald MacArthur

You're right about Ft Bragg having an in-house archeologist. The staff there is very cordial and is more than happy to show anyone around to the various churches, which the Army maintains in a pristine manner, and other sites. They know the area very well. If you're interested they have a book that has a lot of information about the post area history. They are free and they love to give them out. 21. Back from Islay [1]
Well, it's been awhile since our return from Islay. My work load has been extremely heavy and I'm just now to the point where I'm not working overtime. Our visit to Islay was marvelous! The ladies at the Islay Family History Society were so kind and helpful (thanks so much Flora, Effie, and Eleanor). Didn't those hours pleasantly fly by while we were combing the census records! It's a great resource to anyone investigating Islay familiies and I heartily recommend that everyone support the centre
22. Re: [SCT-ISLAY] Red John McArthur [1]
Hi Jeanette, I've been looking at the 1901 Eldon census and the brothers we have identified do not match Duncan married to Barbara and Alexander married to Mary. My Duncan was born in Scotland, this one was born in Ontario. My Alexander was born in 1879, this one was born in 1862. From the given names of the men and their children, these fellows appear to belong in my tree, but I have failed to find them there just yet! Marilyn
