Hi Mark
Thanks for the explanation. "Islay People" does sound like a great
source. The "bulk order" concept may be out of the question but at least
most of us can get to FHS's.
Who knows. Maybe the "The Museum of Islay Life" will be able to publish
the loose sheets if there is enough interest.
My Islay names are CAMPBELL, CURRIE, McQUEEN, KEITH, McDOUGALL,
McCAHARAN,
Thanks again

Is there an Angus McInnes, md. to Janet McAlpine, having children
in Bowmore in the 1820's, emigrated to Ontarior 1835 ? Thanks for
any help you can give me.

I have done the same as Peg with the McGillivray families of Islay, and
added the location and other notes from the OPR registers themselves. I even
found a mistake or two in the OPR index. The files are in Excel and I would
be happy to share them.

Greetings from Downunder! This is my first posting to this list, though
I have been lurking around for a few weeks now. I am seeking information

All of the children were baptised on 19 Feb 1843, at Bowmore, Islay.

Thanks for drawing my attention to that.

Hi Doug
When I first went through the OPRs (Old Parish Registers) for Bowmore/Killarow
Parish, I only noted the male Sinclairs, and their marriages, and their children, because I was looking for specific men. When I have time, I plan to go through the same process for the Sinclair women, who they married and children.
However, I do have two Torry/Torries, married to Sinclairs:
Donald Sinclair and Margaret Torry, children baptized-
John, 1826, Bowmore
Archibald, 1828, Bowmore
Jane, 1831, Bowmore
Peter, 1
Thanks Joanna -
Your notes are correct. I found "Islay People" on the Internet

I'm going to order this microfiche at my local Family History
Center where it will be available to me when ever I need it as
microfiche stays at the Centers rather than returning to L

Try the Celtic House in Bowmore. His email is:
"Colin Roy"
They have many great books, you may want to ask for a list, and if you
would like a description of my favorites, just ask!!

Hi,
I have made a list of the family groups from the OPR microfiche for
various spellings of McTaggart. The family groups begin in 1726 and
continue to about 1855. Not all of the families have a wife identified.
The list includes the parishes of Kildalton, Oa, Killarrow and Kilmeny.
I have not confirmed any of the information, except the ones that
pertain to my own family. It was an interesting project, helpful to my
research and worth sharing with others. It is about 9 pages of
information. If you would l

There is a very interesting description of the drover trails in Margaret Storrie's book "Islay - Biography of an Island". If you don't have it, I'll try to get my copy back from my sister-in-law who borrowed it. I don't think it
mentions any names, but it is an interesting read.

Hi Islay people!
I enjoy listening in on your conversations about Islay descendants.
I need help in understanding the genealogy chart in Freda Ramsay's excellent
book "John Ramsay of Kildalton" on page 56.
I can't figure out how - James Distiller in Alloa and
John Distiller in Port Ellen and
Ardinistle
are related to Ebeneezer Morrison.
Also, where does James of Basildon, on the same chart, fit in?
I think that the Ramsays and Morrisons were not from Islay but wer
Hi Diane
I'm just going through old email messages, and came across the one that says you are going to Islay on Aug. 24. If you're still there, I hope the weather is
decent, and you are having a great time. Let us know when you get home. I'm
looking forward to your news!
Toni S.
Thanks, I will write to him!

Hi Zack
In the Day Book of Daniel Campbell,(rent rolls), there are two listings for McCormaig: (I can't say for sure that it's the same name, but spellings were
often phonetic)
Duncan, 1733-41 at Ballitarsin, Kilmeny
Duncan, 1799, Bowmore
I hope that helps.
Toni
Antonia Sinclair...I'm going to the SLC library SAturday and will be glad to
look up what you need...however, there are a LOT of Sinclairs, and you would
have to have a specific name...let me know

Would like to correspond with anyone who may have information on the TORRIE,
TORREY, TORY, TORRY family of Islay. I am especially interested in the
family of John Torrie (c 1720-c 1790) who immigrated to Cumberland Co.,
North Carolina c 1770. He and his wife Margaret Unknown had children
Beatrice, James, David, George, Elizabeth and Mary. Beatrice (c 1758-1828)
was married about 1772 to Malcolm PURCELL (c 1748-c 1776) and they had one
son John Purcell (c 1773-1850) who raised a large family in Robeson Count

Hi I'm new to the list,
I am seeking information about the family of John Morrison and Mary MacIntyre of Lotts, Kildalton. John died 18 Mar 1899, Mary died March 1907 I think. One of their children came to Australia.
I would love to hear from anyone with information or who may be related.
Many thanks,
David
