Barbara I've sent this to this list so that others can chip in if they have more information Jean The nearest that I can find from Charles Maclean's book is 530.297 Cladh nan Gall Burying place of the strangers (Cladh means burying place) As I interpret the map this is right at the most inland tip of Loch Scridain. Glac appears to mean hollow valley but the nearest name with this prefix is 502.556 Glac na Ceardaich Hollow valley of the smithy . This was the original village of Tobermory. Eleven hous
2. Mull in 1700 [1]
My William McClean was born Isle of Mull 1702. Can anyone tell me if there are any records of any kind for that time period. He moved to Northern Ireland sometime before 1733 when he married there. I don't know if his parents moved there and took him or if he went on his own as an adult. Any suggestions on where to look for information. Also I would like information on what life was like there at that time. Any suggestions for online or offline reading? Helen

Is the list just quiet, or am I not receiving mail? Thought I'd tell you of a piece of good fortune; Jo Currie, while researching for her new book on Mull history, came across a poem written in Gaelic in the 19th century, which was, according to the editor, composed "on the occasion of two sons of Alexander McCallum leaving for foreign shores". I am organizing a translation, and live in hope that it may well give me some more information about my elusive family, few of whom seem to have marriages, christ
