Hi All,
I regret tat I was unable to restore the site this weekend as promised.
All being well, it should be back next weekend with many more entries
(over 2000).
If you have any urgent enquiries, please email direct.

Hi All,
The pages are back with 2043 individuals listed, over 500 more than last
time. The majority of these are cemetery listings for which thanks must
go to Jean Dakin.
There are a number of small errors that I have seen. These I will
correct in time but thought that you would all like to have the pages
back. I trust that the absense has not caused any great problem and I
hope that my ISP will ensure that all pages are backed up in future.
Please let me know if you find any error / problems but with ov
Dear Evan and others,
The attached list was sent in a while ago by Dawn Livingstone. Although
they are mainly travel information, the Macnab books contain interesting
stories about the island's legends.
I have an book called "The Story of Mull and Iona" by Nick Hecketh
published by James Thin, The Mercat Press, Edinburgh 1988.
It is in a "comic book" format and very enjoyable.
ISBN 0 901824.
The address for the Mercal Press is 53-59 South Bridge, Edinburgh.
There is also "The Inner Hebrides and their Lege

I picked up a postcard printed for the Livingstone Centenary (March 19,
1913) at a stamp show last weekend. It has a portrait of the great man and
his signature (not original, I'm afraid) and it occurred to me that there
could be some listee who has connections who might like it. Send me your
address and I'll post it off. First in gets the prize!

Dear List,
As I have told P Strong, I have quite an extensive tree and supporting
documents for this family of John Mclean and Mary McDonald so if there are
others who are interested please contact me. I am not a relation...just
helped a friend Jean Allsep to get the family tree documented and then
followed up with some more research for her.
Clan Maclean Association in Australia plans a cairn to commemorate the
family and their contribution - in a Park in Lismore opposite the old home.

Dear List Members,
First of all, thanks to the many who replied to my help of need a geography lesson. My confusion as to the location of Kintra and the difference of Argyll and Argyllshire is no long a problem.
I know there are quite a few Cameron Family researchers and I am hoping for some help.
Catherine Cameron perhaps born 14 Sept 1820 in Morvern and perhaps a daughter of Donald and Peggy Cameron married about 1845 a John McCormick. According to the 1861 of Iona John McCormick was a merchant and a
Having had such success on my last place name query I thought I would try
again. A number of the McPhies are christened at Cailchean, Kilfininchen
Parish, any suggestions as to were this might have been located, or what it
might be called now or then for that matter if this is an 'anglised'
version of the name. Jillian in a warm & sunny Perth, Western Australia
Hi Jillian:
Found your family at Fionnphort:
MacPHIE Duncan/32/fisherman
Ann/34/wife
Marrion/5/daughter
Donald/2/son
May wouldn't have appeared because the census was taken on 31 March 1851.
There is another MacPHIE family at Kentra (only about a mile or so from
Fiannphort) which I thought just might be Duncan's father, so I'll send it
too:
MacPHIE Donald/66/born Kilfinichen
Mary/wife/56
Niel/28/unmarried son/fish
I am new to the list and I'm hoping for some help on the McCormick family
that I have found in Scotland, as early as 14 Dec 1814 when Neil McCormick
(abt 1786-1851-55) married Flora McDonald ( daughter of Neil and Catherine
(McInnes) McDonald. Flora McDonald McCormick was born about 1792 at
Argyllshire, isle of Mull and died 10 Oct 1858 at West End Iona. They had
11 children all found in the records of Kilifinchen Parish.
They were: Dugald 10 Nov 1814, John 14 Feb 1816, Neil 3 May 1818,
Alexander 7 Feb 18
To Don, list moderator for MacArthur rootsweb list.
Colin MacArthur b. 1793 m. Catherine McEachnie b. 1801. We had her listed as
McEachern, but her grave marker definitely shows McEachnie.
Also Colin b. 1793 had a brother named Angus b. 1795 who had a son named "Big
John". No children.
This branch of Mc/MacArthurs definitely used Mac rather than Mc.
I'm sending an abbreviated tree for this branch so you can bring the list
up-to-date next time.
I'll be off-line for some time doing some traveling

Hi Everyone,
I have been told my MacLeod ancestors were +ACI-The MacLeods of
Greshnish/Tresnish+ACI-. Has anyone ever heard of either of these names?
Apparently Moira MacLeod married Lachlan +ACI-Mor+ACI- MacKinnon, 28th Chief of Clan
MacKinnon. (2nd marriage). They had a child John MacKinnon (Ian 'na
Mishnish) who became the Chieftain of the Mishnish Branch of MacKinnons.
Does anyone have any information on who this Moira MacLeod was? As two of
their sons, John and Ranald came to Nova Scotia in 1757,

Dear Listers,
The list of immigrants from or passing through the Isle of Mull on the
"Brilliant", arriving Australia on 2 Jan, 1838 (Australian Archives
"Assisted Bounty Immigrants" Ref# 4/4828, reel# 1288) has two John Macleans.
One is John Maclean, the other is John Maclean 1st.
John Maclean is from Parish of Kilninian and John Maclean 1st from the Isle
of Coll, DOB c1806, son of Donald and Euphemia.
Is this naming just a shipping convenience, or was it the way things were
done on Mull?
Surely the Am
I was showing my wife your statement that A county can only be a shire if
there is a city or town of the same name as the county?
Pamela who hails from Hampshire in England asks how does Hampshire then come
to be a well known county and shire when there is no town or city of the same
name, she tells me that Winchester is the county town of Hampshire capital of
Wessex, by the same reasoning Lancashire is a shire when there is no town of
that name the county town is Lancaster.Should that then be Lancast

McCormick was Dugald McCormick christened 20 Nov 1814 Argyllshire, Iona.
In the 1861 census of Argyllshire, I find Dugald's wife is named Janet, age
36 which puts her birthdate about 1825. From the IGI records I find that
there is a marriage between a Dugald McCormick and Janet (Jannett)
McCallum, but no date given. Yet further I find a Malcom and Mary (Lamont)

Hi Everyone.
I'm researching Lachlan Mor MacKinnon, 28th Chief of Clan MacKinnon. He
married 1st a MacLean of Duart and had John MacKinnon (Johnnie Og) and
Donald.
He married 2nd Moira MacLeod and they had John who became know as Ian or
John 'na Mishnish, Isle of Mull. John married Anne MacDonald.
Does anyone have any information on
1. Who was this +ACI-MacLean of Duart+ACI-?
2. Who was Moira MacLeod? I've been told she was (a) niece of Laird of
MacLeod or (b) daughter of MacLeod of MacLeod.
3. Who is
Many thanks for the look up Jean, our emails must have crossed in the
system. Have decided Marion is the one born in 1845, so now I have one
born in 1850, that presumably did not live long and the baby Mary, can't
have yet been born. Jillian

There is a Kintra on Mull. It is located on the Ross of Mull north of
Fionnphort and a tad to the east. That puts it along the western coastline
very close to Iona. Could these places be one and the same?
