Can anyone help? I have seen this booklet on Google. I have been trying to find it with no luck.
On Glasgow F.H.S. i found a pre 1855 Monumental In scriptions but as I have the Pre 1855 Inscriptions by Alison Mitchel l , it would not be much help to me.
My sister has a booklet Pre 1855 deaths for Ayrshire, it gives deaths and what they died from. We have found some relatives in this that did not have Monumental Inscriptions, and this is what I hoped to find by Lesley Couperwaite.
As anyone
I have a database of Renfrews and have Margaret Renfrew and and
James Philip. I found on the Internet some time ago, information on
this family and Margaret died 25/7/1834 in Ohio. I also have that
they had 2 children in Scotland John in 1787 and Mary in August 1789.
Margaret was the daughter of John Renfrew and Margaret Donaldson. Do
you have this information?
I don't have the McAlister name on my list. quite a few Elizabeths.
do you have any more information on them.

Lorraine,
Susan Scott is a real mystery, it says sister in law to James McKILL on the 1851 census. This is the first time that I have come across the name Scott. If she is the sister of Margaret McKILL nee HARKNESS/HERCULES and all the varients of this name.
Margaret's parents were Margaret SHAW and the dratted Joseph HERCULES/HARKNESS.
Margaret Shaw's Parents were James Shaw and Susan Dick.
I cannot find a Scott anywhere, Susan was suppose ro be single. So this mystery will have to wait until
Unfortunately, I can't help you but I was wondering, since you have a book
in your posession listing the MI's for pre 1855, would it be possible for
you to see if a Peter McAllister is included? He died in an accident while
working for the 5th Duke of Argyle. Many thanks, Ruth in Florida, U.S.A.

It is the web site of the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild.
On it you will find volumes and volumes of ship manifests

Searches can be done from Time Period, Point of Departure, Port of Arrival,

I got lucky and found my family when they emigrated to the states.

Have just received my copy of Sneddon Poorhouse. What little I have read of it is very enlightning and a little sad.
Found some members of my family , had a little smile though apparently My g.g.g.grandfather ran away with two others and when they were brought back they were warned if they did it again they would not be allowed back in the house.I have also got a booklet of the Paisley Almhouse. Off now to have a quiet read

Well, after I found my Bruce ELLIS/ALICE on the IGI as Alice BRUCE, I'd be
prepared to believe anything. Admittedly that's not the original PR, which
was probably completed correctly, but someone being a bit clever in
interpreting it for transcription.
You'd expect the minister to know his parishioners, but it may have been a
large parish and I believe that the registers were often written up by the
curate, who may not have performed the baptism.

Dear Jeanette,
I really am starting to feel that maybe my reasoning is not so wild after all. It seems stramge to me that only Ninian is missing. I know I have had some funny spellings of the surname and allowing for this and searching through all the batch numbers in Renfrew, I have not managed to find his birth.
Well I shall have to keep an open mind because I will never be able to prove it.

I have just got to share this with the list. You probably have seen my E Mails about the name HERCULES and some other various spellings. In a certain time frame 1765-1785 I could not find various members. I managed to get Army Records etc. but no births. Today was D DAY. I decided to look up the Batch number for Abbey Paisley which was C115598 and entered that in the relevent box plus region British Isles, Scotland and renfrew. Just clicked and got on to Abbey and trawled down all the names on that b
I have received the birth certificate for my ancestor Andrew (Greenock Old
or West) 1818 but there is no mother's name (unlike everyone else on the
page). Why would this be?
The father is William McIntyre and, because of naming patterns, I believe
that the mother is Marion. I have found a marriage for William and Marion in
1803. I have also found other children on IGI of William and Marion and
William and Manie from 1804 to 1816.
So next question, if this is the same family, why would Mario

Hi David,
Did you get a card in the CD with the 1841 census for Paisley? In the middle
of that card is all the abbreviations. HM is household member and HD is Head
of household.
Hope that helps.

Dear Listers,
Does anyone on the list live near Greenock cemetery and able to record an
inscription from a gravestone for me, please?
My G-G-Uncle and his family are buried in Greenock Cemetery,Lair 326
Section 2.
Richard and Mary Jones of Roxburgh St, Greenock. He worked as an HM Csutoms O
fficer.
Richard died October 22nd 1867 and Mary August 20th 1874
Their children were Elizabeth, Richard, William, Mary Ann, Sarah and
Alexander.
One of the children was a sea captain and was lost at sea o
Does anybody know whether or not the minster would have done his records straight after a christening or if it was likely he entered a few at a time.
The reason I ask this is on one of mine James was put down as William and they said his father's name was James so the father and son's name werereversed.
As you know they usually say lawful or legal son or daughter etc.
My problem is that I have been looking for a Ninian Hercules born about 1780 in Paisley.
I got the date from his Army
Jean, you will most probably find it is NOT Scotland.
From another list.......
The entries posted today include the 1841 census for England, Wales, Channel
Isles and Isle of Man.
