Hello Olive, sorry not to get back to you for a while. thanks for those directions to the N.S. Museum, I am hoping to have a day in Newton next week, so I will be keeping a keen eye open for Boyd Orr etc!! There is a picture on at the Cinema," Gosford Park" which I would like to see, so will be killing (3) birds with one stone. I don't believe there is an older head on this List than mine!. Diana
Diana, just to let you know that there is at least one other person on the
list who knows what you're talking about and can empathize with your pride.
Cheers!

The IGI also shows the following christening info for
another child for James McBryd and Jannat McMikine in
New Luce, Batch # C118862.
Janet McBryd, ch. 1 Dec 1771
I can only assume that leaving off the ending "e" gives
the name a different soundex code.

Dear Rae, I am trying to find your Johnstone family in Stoneykirk. I am looking at the 1841 census. So it would be (possibly) Elizabeths father I would be looking at.I will give you all the Johnstones in this census:-

Dear Louise, at last my Dalrymple friend has returned from her trip. I phoned her tonight and lo and behold the descendent she visited in America is visiting Stranraer at the moment! I am to meet her probably tomorrow, so I will be able to put you two in touch, which will be much easier than me relaying everything. Apparently she has done a lot of research, and is on the Internet. I will report back as soon as possible. Diana
The following Hannay family information was published by Col. William Van Derpoel Hannay around 1969.
As there are `several folks researching the McCulloch families, I thought there may be some information here `of interest.

1) James Hannay, son of Robert Hannay and Janet McKie, born 1725, married Ann McCULLOCH of Barholm Oct 15 1752. She died Sept 20 1805, and he died 1810.
They had issue:
- Elizabeth Hannay b Jul 3 1753
- David Hannay b Creetown
In recent weeks both the D-G and WiG list have carried a fair amount of
discussion and comment about online access to OPRs, Wills, Census Data etc.
Today I uploaded the SAFHS April Bulletin to www.safhs.org.uk.

Dear Heather, can you send your address and then I will send it. I ws as Ardwell Church this afternoon, there is a lot of activity there regarding the centenary, I asked my husband to take me round by Kirkmadrine, but we didn't have time. The church is no longer in use, Ardwell and Sandhead churches now come under "Stoneykirk Parish Church" the church at Stoneykirk having been shut a number of years ago. Diana
Dear Lorraine, this is probably not very helpful, but my great aunt Elizabeth Kerr (1868 - 1895) married a Robert Rorrison in Whithorn(?), she died aged 27 and they had no children. I think they were only married for a few months. I know nothing more about him, whether he remarried or what became of him. There is a Rorrison family connected to Ardwell, I always have meant to ask if they had a relative Robert. Diana

Not my own family. It is one of those inconvenient names that can be spelled sundry ways, and one must keep an open mind and look at those variants.
AGCI has a W. McMeckan in NZ Springston, 1800s: Church History
And also a William McMeckan in Sydney 1834: Land Transaction in Govt Gazette

Hello Niven.
This is what I have for your McMaster family.
Elizabeth McMaster was born before 24th January 1744, the first event for
which there is a recorded date. She was (as you say) the daughter of
William McMaster who was born circa 1679 He died 18th July 1742 in
Challoch, Glenluce. William`s wife was Janet ? who was born date unknown.
She died date unknown. There is no documentary proof of her name, but all
her children named their eldest daughter Jannet. Elizabeth married

Hi Ian,
You asked if there are any others with McCarlie connections out here, so here I am. Not from Inch though (so far as I am aware) but Old Luce.
Those that I have traced include:-
Thomas McCarlie, b. c.1713, m. Ann Hay c. 1740
Their children, Agnes, John, Thomas and Alexander, b. 1744 m. Leonora Kelly 1777
and their children, John, Elizabeth, Janet and Thomas (Janet married John Hornsby in 1812).
Records indicate that the father of Thomas (b. c.1713) was also named Thomas, but no luck in tracing
Let me introduce myself. I'm a total Tyro at both computing especially the
web and at genealogy. I retired from medical practice when I was 70yrs. old,
well nigh two years ago. I'm fit and well, but unable to go far from home as
my wife and I are looking after our 40 yr. old son who has severe learning
disabilities. Hence the need to undertake family research at arms length.

Hello Listers,
I have just received the OPR's for Wigtown.

Hi yall
My great uncle James Henry Woodhouse was in

There were some 30 children in the home, and 7
adults, they were cooks and nurses. There were
no doctors!
The quarrier home archivist (not connected to this
home), was good enough to do some research and
found out the home was originally built for mentally or

Hi,
Have you thought about using Crawford's M'Kerlie index on the Wigtownshire

You're in luck with one of them though. Neal Smith donated some historical
photos to the site, and Bladenoch Bridge is the subject of one of the
photos. It can be found here, part of the Wigtown picture gallery.
