Hi again,
I've added a different search engine to the site and all seems fine. If
you have any problems, please let me know. I'm also in the process of
updating the Births section, so that will happen today/tomorrow.

Hi,
I've added the ability to search for a name to the web site. It needs
some fine tuning, so any comments would be appreciated (I've got broad
shoulders so I can handle the critical ones too ).
The URL is -
www.sctbdm.com
The search engine is at the bottom of the home page.
Cheers

Forgot to Post this one to the recipient, and thought it more important to go ahead and Post it here. It was an 1855

For any single event listed in the IGI or the Scottish Church Records CD, there is ONE Batch number connected.
That same Batch Number can yield some other events for the same surname in the same parish.
In fact there may be , that will contain that surname in that parish. Examples:
CAMERON, Margaret, parish name Urquhart Logie Wester:

DON,
That makes perfect sense. Thanks to you and Crawford for the history
lessons. I guess it never occured to me how close Wigtownshire is to
Ireland. I know that my gg grandmother is listed in one census here as
being Irish. Our best information is that it was an error. But I do realize
that in many American minds the Scots and Irish are nearly the same. NOT
TRUE!

My gg grandfather James STITT was married to a Mary McCLURE they had two children Jane born 1849 & John born 16 September 1851 Portpatrick, Wigtown.
Jane married James GORDON 25 Dec 1873 they lived at Cawerword Cottage, Minnigaff they had four children, Mary, Margaret,Jane & John, but she died aged 33yrs and is interred in Minigaff churchyard.
John went to live in London and married a Christina URQUHART from Creich, Sutherland.

hello all, I will be going down to Wigtownshire on Monday 4th for a week.
Concentrating on Kirkcowan for my Clanachan's and Stoneykirk for my Parker's.
If anyone wants a look-up in these places give me a line and I'll see what I
can do.

Hi Raymond,
So far as I"m concerned a publican is someone who owns or runs a "pub" i.e.
a public house or tavern.

I have now traced my elusive William Skimming to Glenluce and believe he was
the son of Alexander SKimming and Grizel McAlmond/McCamond. However I can
still not find his death. William married Grizel Williamson daughter of
Fergus Williamson of Airyhemming - she died in Glenluce in 1882 aged 91.
William seems to be missing at census times - their youngest child was born
1832! If anyone has any clues it would be much appreciated.
I was at Register House in Edinburgh yesterday and I was lucky enough to

It is a town in parish Mochrum, OS map coords are NX3343 and in 1971 there were 517 persons living in 186 houses.
Not what I would call a "town" but in this craft it's best not to dispute sources. My source, HMSO Stationery Office.

I wonder if anyone on this list has ancestors who joined the Royal Scots
Regiment of Foot (don't have the number in front of me)? I'd love to know
where they signed up and served during the years about 1800-1820. I have
contacted the regimental headquarters in Edinburgh and received some
excellent information on the regiment. It would be intersting to know if
anyone else has gone down that path in terms of research.

Hi Ray,
I suspect that the most likely answer to one half of your question
will be found in Michigan's history. There were usually two sides to the
question ---- why did they leave ---- why did they go where they went ----
and quite often not very much related.
My gg father left Wigtownshire in about 1851 and went to Ayrshire, a very
much shorter hop! But the reason for leaving may well have been the same.
After the great famine in Ireland in the late 1840s, many Irish folks came
to Wigtownshire (it was j
Thank you for your kind comments Dan, We can always rely on the Washington Post, can't we? I showed the article to "the Oracle" he who knows all there is to know about curling. ( ie, hubby) very critical he is. He seemed pleased but pointed out that Hammy was the skip of the GB mens team, not the coach, that honour goes to Mike Hay. Hammy's team who suffered an humiliating 7th place vows to be back trying again for the next Olympics, "it's not always about winning, I have made a lot of tremendous friends
