Jim,
A perusal of the 1841 Census Booklet indicates that "Sheuchan Mill" seems to
be a name for an area rather than just a mill. One of the "Sheuchan Mill
enumeration district listings followed by the page number" is identical in a
reference to a "Sheuchan Parks enumeration district and page number" so they
are definitely adjoining areas. There are approximately 50 people living
there at the time of the 1841 Census ranging in ages from 3 months to 78
years. Occupations are listed as Blacksmith, Joiner, M

The above is where my G G G Aunt and Uncle Robert LEES (MCLEES, LEESE) married Jane BEATTIE on 29 October 1863.
Can anyone give me more information on Bridge End?

Hello
Can I first off apologise for those of you who receive this message more
than once, because of the nature of my request I have used more than one
list.
I am attempting to sit university papers at a more than mature age, (trying
to catch up with my children and grandchildren). One of these papers deals
with the industrial and agricultural revolution in Europe in general, and
Britain in particular. A part of the knowledge that I am seeking to absorb
is based on the ages, which people married, conceive

Hello Wayne
The only David Hannay residing in Kirkcowan in 1841 was aged 3, whereas yours would be 61(ish). There is no Susan at all and none of the children seem to be there or the Grandparents, John and Susan.
Not in Mochrum either, or Stoneykirk, Kirkinner or Garlieston village, Glenluce village, Old Luce, Newton Stewart, Whithorn, Sorbie, Glasserton or Wigtown.
I found a David Hannay age 55, molecatcher in Penninghame, living at Low Glasnock 5, with Shusand(?), age 45, John age 5 and Mary age 10, all r

Hi listers
Just received the death certificate of my great grandfather
James Henry Woodhouse. He died 20 Oct 1881 at the
Royal Infirmary Glasgow, cause was a "compound fracture
of the jaw and skull". It was registered by his wife Catherine
Barclay the following day 21st.
What is the difference between a fracture and a compound
fracture?
James was a docker, could this have been the result of an
accident at work?
Could this event be recorded in a local newspaper, does
anybody know the local newspaper
Hello again list,
I was wondering if anyone having the Kirkmaiden or Stoneykirk MI's could check to see if there are any McCargo's listed. I have Isabella (McCargo) McWhirter but am wondering if any of her siblings/parents may be listed. Her parents were John McCargo and Margaret Baillie.
Isabella was born approx. 1778 and died 1872, age 94.
Monumental Inscriptions sometimes hold the key to generations.
Thanks, Hope
Hello,
I have a proven ancestor, John McCREADIE who married Isobel KELLY at Kirkstyle, Old Luce in 1805.
In trying to establish the parents of John, the most likely candidates - found on Scots Origins index are:-
James McCREDIE and Margaret McLELLAN - with a son John b. 1779 Old Luce
or
James McCREDIE and Jean McCULLOCH - son John b 1776 in Stranraer.
The names of John and Isobel's children seem to favour McCREDIE/McLELLAN however I am finding it difficult to prove.
I would appreciate hearing from any

The IGI has records for several Lavery familes in
Wigtownshire from the early 1810's forward.
Daniel Lavery m. Isabella Maxwell 1 Dec 1813 in
Stoneykirk
Elizabeth Lavery ch. 18 Oct 1840 in Old Luce; parents
Daniel Lavery & Isabella Maxwell.
I don't know if it is the same couple, the date is late
for an 1813 marriage.
There was also another early family: James Lavery &
Jean McDowall

Hi Alison, they play for the Strathcona Cup. Every 10 years a Scottish team go over to Canada and every 10 years the Canadians come over to Scotland. (In other words every 5 years there is a match) The Strathcona Cup itself never leaves these shores, even tho' Canada win. They just take the glory home with them. There will be records if you really wanted to know, at the Royal Caledonian Curling Club headquarters at Ingleston, Edinburgh. They don't play under the clan titles now tho, but they have a unif
Good Evening Listers,
At some time before 1841, probably in Sorbie, but poss. in Wigtown, a child by the name of Alexander DOUGLAS died. He was born in 1831 in Wigtown to parents Thomas DOUGLAS and May (Marion) BUTLER DOUGLAS.
I would love to locate evidence of his death if SKS can find an MI for him.
The elements of this family dispersed around the world so you will not find a large family monument.
Thank-you.

Hello Dennis
I had a look through my booklets and did find something else in Mochrum - may be nothing but I found a Robert McCrindle (mason) and Mary both aged 40 (so aged between 40 and 45). They appear to have a huge family living with them at Port William Village number 1:-
Anne 14
James 10
John 12
Margaret 7
Mary 1
Robert 3
Sarah 5
Thomas 16, mason app
Still no Jane though, I even looked up Crindle/Crindel just incase.
I did find William Higgins though age 8 in Inch at Lonachrea Farm 5 - another larg

Hi, Maggie --
I checked the following 1841 census booklets for PATTERSON/PATERSON/PATTISON: GARLIESTON, KIRKCOWAN, KIRKINNER, KIRKMAIDEN,

Hope, I see lots of McCargos in Kirkmaiden on the batch number site. Also a couple of stray ones.

Thanks for all the work Diana, I have that article on G Rochester as it mentioned the 'old burial ground' I assumed he'd be listed in the P/P memorials booklet, likewise William's headstone is large and ornate so the Wither family was reasonably substantial in the area. They have been in the area since at least 1684. John and Susan had at least 7 children, William and Mary Biggam another 7 and Susan seems to have had 'relationships' with another 3 children resulting so you would expect far more headstones t

The "E?" was not easily read, but on reflection, it was probably meant to
be "Dr", or perhaps "Dr I".
The minister in question had to be the Reverend Dr Isaac Davidson. Hi son,
Elliot William Davidson, (or his session clerk), would have made that entry
in the Sorbie register, as he was the minister of Sorbie at the time.
