O.K. you retired Folks out there.
I am just getting into this and need help to find my Nathan Quinshaw listed
in 1870 with his family in Union Township Union S.C. Can not locate him
again. My GGrand Mother's death certificate found in Arkansas listed that her
maiden name was QUINAHAW. The census of 1900 listed her parents from South
Carolina.
I have attempted to located a male QUINSHAW in any state but have been able
to located any males with that list name after 1870. Any suggestions just

Maybe there are two generations because the 1820 census shows 1-2-0-1-0-1
males where I think the oldest division is 45+.
Thanks,

Congratulations Friend on your upcoming retirement. You are only 65? I
have been doing serious genealogy for sixty, so you are still just a Spring
Chicken. In those three S. C. counties that you mentioned, I have beaten
the bushes looking for GADBERRYS.
The family names that you mention all sound familiar. I am particularly
looking for JAMES M. GADBERRY, State Legislator from Union County, lawyer,
delegate to the SECESSION CONVENTION of December 1860, and signer of the S.

James,
I'm curious about the NANCE line that you mentioned above. My specific Nance
family goes back to Jesse C. Nance, (1831-1903). Jesse married Minerva
Brown. I THINK that Jesse's father was Thomas Nance (d. 1841). They lived
in the Union/Cherokee Cos. of SC. If any of this sounds
Hi Jackie,
Hey, not all of us out here are retired but I did check ancestry.com,
genealogy.com, and genserv.com without much success (other than Nathan
on the 1870 census). Could he have changed his name or the spelling of
the name?

Neil and Dave : you both have the BadTrans virus.
Just rec'd e-mails from both of you with the infected attachment. If anyone
on the list receives e-mail with an attachment that you are not expecting
and the attachment file window opens as soon as you highlight the e-mail,
DON'T Open it. For an explanation of the virus see www.symantec.com Type
in BadTrans in the search engine and it will give you the full explanation.
Please let me apologize if you receive more than one copy of this as I
am cross posting.
I am looking for info on my ggg-grandfather Elijah WADE b. abt. 1804 SC.
Elijah who m. Rebecca HAMES was living in Hall Co GA from at least 1823
to 1827. I am looking for Elijah's parents. His father may be the
Edward WADE described below. Rebecca was the dau. of John HAMES and
Charity JASPER. I know a great deal about Rebecca's family but
practically nothing about her.
I am also looking for info on Edward WADE

Eldon,
After many many tries of spelling the surname of Nathan. I found him once
again in 1880, Columbus Co. Richland S.C. This time the name was spelled from
QUINSHAW to CRANCHAW. Some times I wonder if I am the only one that goes
through these types of experiences with surnames.

I believe Cherokee Co was formed from parts of Union, Spartenburg
and York Counties in 1898. The new county took out the center
wehere the three counties came together, or so it appears on the
map. My family names from that part of the country are
Bird/Ross, Lipscomb, Driskill, Cooper, Nance, and maybe others
depending upon what side of the state line they were when you
want to count them. Seems that NC/SC border was about invisible
as far as communities, neighborhoods and families are
concerned...

First, I wish God's richest blessings for each of you and those you love
this Holiday season.
Second, I wish to find parents for Thomas WRIGHT who was in Union County
from 1783 (possibly much earlier) until about 1808 when he moved his family
to Tennessee.
Third, to find parents for Lillie __?__ wife of the above. They had very
close ties to William WOFFORD, the "rich Tory," and to the WALKERs, THOMSONs
and BOBOs.
Fourth, to straighten out that nest of BRIGGS who lived at the intersection

Mickey,
Yes I am going crazy with this surname. I have found just found Nathan in the
1880 Richland, Columbus Co census. surname was spelled CRANCHAW. I just
recieved my 1880 census and National Index. In the Index "CR" CD, I typed in
NATHAN first name born in SC, 1835, and there he was.
Thank God for this CD.
Jackie
The 1820 FAIRFIELD COUNTY census has:
p. 149,
Berryman Knight, 120101-32101
(1 male under 10; 2 males 10-16; 1 male 16-26; 1 male 45+, 3 fem. under 10;
2 fem. 10-16; 1 fem. 16-26; 1 fem. 26-45)
The 1820 census has a column for males 16-18. but it was blank for this
family.
