I Googled Altoona Cem. and found pre-1906 burials, no PAYNE, MARSHALL, or GRIMM.
Death certificates should be available for deaths after 1905, from the Dept. of Health, 600 E. Capitol, Pierre, SD 57501 - 2536.

I have the homestead file for a John G. Schalk who homesteaded in Beadle county in the 1880s. I was hoping it was my John Chalk, born 1839 in Ireland, but doesn't appear to be.
Does anyone have any information on the John G. Schalk that I have the file on?
Thanks for any help.
