Thank you for the information on Daniel Smith's military record. I have just sent for his death certificate. It seems quite a coincidence that there were two Daniel J. Smiths who died on the very same day - one in Charles Mix Co. and one in Fall River Co.

According to his grave marker, his date of death is listed as Dec 6, 1905. It also states that he served in Co. B 7th Illinois Vol Cavalry. I checked the Illinois civil war page and he is listed, it listed his residence as Silver Creek.
