Allan Rowe's post regarding this line struck a bell. I have
little info but a different child's line. My descendent of
Phillip is 1. Mary b. ca 1660, married Francis James.
(Marriages of Richmond Co., VA, 1668-1853, George H.S. King)
I have them as parents of Sherwood JAMES who married Anne
LONG and later moved to SC. When he moved his daughter
Nancy Mary JAMES and her husband Matthew Singleton also
moved. Another child of Shewwood James is daughter
Elizabeth James who married Joseph Singleton, circa 1
To Phil Sherwood and all list members:
I am not aware of any evidence that Thomas SHERWOOD (1585-1655) was
born in Nottinghamshire, England. His origin is a long-standing
puzzle. The best discussion of Thomas's origin is found in "Daniel
L. Sherwood and His Paternal Ancestors," by Andrew Sherwood (Ryder
Printing Co., Portland, Oregon, 1929). The foremost Sherwood
genealogists of the time were flummoxed by the same problem. Since
it's fair to assume that all the obvious paths of research are

Anyone connect with either of these two families? These are not my main
Sherwood connections, but would like more info on these folks and their
descendants.

to help those of you who can definitely trace their Sherwood ancestry back
to England.
I have no data on Sherwood families in America, other than that given to me
by Geoff Sherwood on the Fairfield CT line. By the way, is there any

I have William Irving Sherwood's ancestrage going back to the
immigrant, Thomas SHERWOOD (1585-1655), but unfortunately have
nothing on William's descendants other than what you posted. If his
Sherwood ancestrage is of any use to you, I will gladly share it with
you and this List.
Also, do you have any information on the Sherwood ancestors of the
Anson L. Sherwood that you mentioned? I have no information on him
at all, and would like to include him in my Sherwood database.
Kind Regards,

I am new to this list. Can anyone tell me of Sherwoods in early VA in 1600's
and early 1700's (which counties and what first names?)
Were there Sherwoods in Bertie Co., Edgecome Co., Nash Co. or Johnston Co.
in N.C. before 1750? If so which counties and what first names?
Are there any connections to Boltons? Sherwood daughters named Sarah born
between 1730 and 1750 in above areas?
Thanks.

Hi,
I'm seeking ancestors or descendants of my 7x great-grandfather William
SHERWOOD/SHURRUD or SHERWELL who married Amy NEWMAN at Mersham in Kent,
England in 1699. I have a large amount of information on the surname in
Kent, and would be glad to hear from anyone researching the name in that
county.
His register report is as follows:
