2. [SHOEMAKER] Indian Blood [1]
Re: Vonnie The daughter of Peter Shoemaker, (and Elizabeth See) as I understand , was Ruth. There are several different "twists" on this Indian kidnap of a Shoemaker girl. Ruth was taken by Indians, not sure what tribe, I will have to research my own notes. She married a "Chief Cornstalk". A child was born , when Ruth was rescued by her family, she wasn't allowed to take the child. She went on to marry Samuel Bradford. He died in the war of 1812. She married Samuel Wood 1 June 1815. She ha

7. [SHOEMAKER] John Shoemaker [1]
Hi folks, My John Shoemaker born ca 1802 has got to fit in with one of these lines somehow. His children are: William, Benjamin, Elizabeth (Polly) Jane, George William, Martha, Elias Beason, Eliza, Harrison Riggs, Sarah Elizabeth, John and Sylvester. I could be wrong but, I don't consider Sylvester a common name. The first three children are born in Indiana. The rest in Illinois. The only census record that records John's birthplace while he is living is 1850. It shows Ohio. Most of the children's
8. [SHOEMAKER] Shoemaker/Cherokee Heritage? [1]
I had been told several years ago by my mother, one of our lines of Shoemakers (the Rockbridge County, and Buena Vista, VA area) had a Native American background, and that's why my mother had such high cheekbones and dark hair and eyes. I had forgotten completely about this conversation until reading the recent posts regarding Shoemakers and the Native American marriages. Last summer, in an attempt to try to break through my brick wall of Shoemakers, I went to visit my last surviving great-aunt in Buen
9. [SHOEMAKER] Thomas H. Shoemaker Book 4th month 3rd, 1893 [1]
Some surnames mention: Isaac and Sarah HENDRICKS SHOEMAKER, descend from the SHOEMAKER-RAWLE_PENNINGTON branch. WALL and probably others as this book has no index. I don't believe these Shoemaker's are my line. Tootsie Shoemaker T. -- "Lord, keep your arm around my shoulders....and your hand over my mouth."
10. Re: [SHOEMAKER] Shoemaker/Cherokee Heritage? [1]
I understand, and I have not researched this in depth, that Shoemaker is a common name in Melungeon research....which fits both the Cherokee and Black Dutch discrimination patterns throughout Appalachian and Southern parts of North America and as described in Nancy's post. Another name often mentioned is Roberson (no 't'), and my roberson married a Shoemaker. Talk about brick walls! Alice
11. [SHOEMAKER] Frair? [1]
I am just starting out trying to help a friend of mine. This is his line. GGrandmother-Pearl Mae Shoemaker b. dec. 9, 1895 m. Frair Grandmother- Lula Olive Croney nee Friar b. 1923 m. Croney I was told that this line was Cherokee. I do some Cherokee research, and have not yet found any connections, I'm sure it's due alot to a lack on information. Lula died in Kansas, but am thinking that she and her mother might have been born in Oklahoma. I wish I have more information to share, but at this time I just d

Nancy - What information did your aunt give you regarding the Agee/Shoemaker line? I am one of the descendants of an Agee/Shoemaker marriage and would love to see what information you have there. I'm sorry, I can't help you with the Native American/Shoemaker part of your genealogy, all I can do is wish you much luck on your search. If you like, please email me privately since there may not be anyone else interested in this particular line, or what ever you would like to do. My email is oshanna50@
