David,
There were a lot of McCartys in the Loudoun Co/Fairfax Co. area during
the early 1800's. Could they have spent some time in VA before moving
to Indiana? I'm sure you are aware of the Smallwood family of MD. Some
of them settled in northwestern VA. I have been interested in finding
any PA Smallwoods. I'm aware of at least one Smallwood marriage in Pa
in the 1700's. It also seems logical that as MD Smallwoods moved futher
west in their state and into VA that some may have chosen PA, or even

Their son was Beane Smallwood who married Mary Smallwood Wynn.
Their son George Smallwood married Mary Polly ?
Their son John Wesley Smallwood married susan Beavers.
Their son George Washington Smallwood married first Mary Elizabeth O'Bannon
and had son Charles Henry Smallwood. George Washington Smallwood married a
second time after his first wife's death to Miss Liddia Williams.
Charles Henry Smallwood married first wife Darmaris Magdalyn Simms.

Hi - I am very interested in your line of Smallwoods. I have not been able
to connect my Charles F. Smallwood b. 1815 probably in Loudoun or Rockingham
Co. VA. & migrated to Taylor Co., Va, later WV in abt. 1842. I have
collected many lines of Smallwoods and have yours only down to George b.
1770? I believe this particular line is the most likely to connect to my own
line basically because of the similarity of given names. My Great
grandfather was John Henry b. 1844, his father the above Charles, named

How about Hezekiah Smallwood m. Phebe ?? b. 1817 d. 1901. They had at least
one son, Stephen Baxter Smallwood b. 1851 d. 1922, who married Cassaner Jane
Christian b. 1863 d. 1953. This family was in the Scott Co. VA area for a
while. Stephen and Cassaner relocated to Texas in the late 1800's. Phebe and
Cassaner and some of their descendants are buried in Kaufman Co. TX.
I would like to know more about this Hezekiah and any other children.

Thank you for responding, Saundra. Could you clarify how the name Karr fits
in with Hezekiah Smallwood husband of Phebe in your post (below)?
For those of you keeping track, Phebe (Wininger?) Smallwood is buried in
Spikes Cemetery, Kaufman Co. TX. The dates on her tombstone are 6 Sep 1817 -
27 Jan 1901.

I am still looking for my ancestor, Mary Smallwood, born 1769 in Harrisburg, PA. She married Benjamin McCarty, Bucks County, PA, in 1787; they moved to Muncy, PA, helping to lay out the town in 1795. Mary died in Rolling Prairie, IN, in 1865. Nobody seems to have ever heard of her; does anyone have her or her family in his database? Thanks, David Friant
William is not in the 1860 census with his wife Matilda in Monroe Cty IN

Matilda died August 6 just after the census was taken. She is buried in

Hi,
here is what I have thus far, and there is always room for improvement.
George Smallwood was born 1772. He married Mary Polly ?
Children of George and Mary are:
1. Levin D. Smallwood married to Julie perry, 1837
2. William Smallwood married Elizabeth Harding
3. John Wesley Smallwood, b. 1802 Union, Va which is Loudoun county, Va
Children of John Wesley Smallwood and Susan Beavers who was born 1805 in

I may have a birth date for James somewhere in my Smallwood pile. It may take
a couple of days to locate. I seems to remember 1821 and him being first
born. Yes Bayne moved from Md to Va.
While hunting for my three Hezekiahs, I run into this guy all of the
time. Some one asked about him a couple of days ago, so check out this
site. Regards, Mary Ann

Do you have a birth date for James W Smallwood? Our info suggests 1821.
We may have a copy of the death certificate.

We have been searching for documentation and would appreciate any help.
Hi, everybody!
I have a few things to tell everybody about... won't take long!
1) I hope everybody is enjoying the holiday season!
2) I encourage each of you to post your "stone wall" for this surname!
Chances are, you will either get the stone wall knocked down, or at least
find a new cousin or two for sharing your troubles!
3) There are some viruses going around that LOOK LIKE they are coming from
Rootsweb; they may look like a rootsweb subject, and may even have a
rootsweb mailing list return add
listing this 1880 Ralls co.MO.Clay township; hoping new cousins might read.
