Leta-- I am NOT connected to this family, but can offer this help:
I see William and Francis (was probably misspelled by the census
enumerator; female Frances is usually "-es") in the 1920 Freeport IL
census, as you say.
The only child I see listed appears to be Goddard, 14 years. No mention
of other children in that household, older or younger.
As you can also see, William's parents were both born in England.
Also, a couple of doors away are John and Leora/ Leona SMITH and two
children.

Ancestry ?

So desperately hunting down my Smith line. They are scattered, and this makes things a little more difficult. But, with a little luck someone, somewhere will recognize this family.
William J. Smith b/1868 in Mo. lived in Freeport, Ill. per the 1920 census and a probate I have when his mother died. William was a Four and Seed Merchant in Troy. I also found him as having been a salesman for a general store. On the probate it names his wife as Francis G. Smith. They had the followin
