My Edward Smith was born in England in 1802, immigrated to the US about 1830 . He lived in Clinton, Starke, and LaPorte Counties, Indiana. He married in 1831 in Clinton Co. He died in 1859 and his wife died in 1860. They are buried in LaPorte Co IN. The children were Joseph, Charles, Lonson, George, Martha, James and John Wesley Smith. His occupation was that of minister & farmer. During the Civil War, he served in Co. I, 139th Indiana Infantry as a Sergeant. My oldest known Smith is John W. Smith born abt 1820 in Virginia, He married Mary Atchinson in Wells Co. Indiana 1842 she was born abt 1821 in Wayne Co., Ohio and died between 1860 and 1870 when her name no longer is found on the census. Instead a Rachael McClary takes her place in 1870.
