Good Morning,
I am researching my Smith lines starting with my Lemuel
Smith who was born 1815 in Boston and then moved to the
New York City area. On Lemuel's birth certificate it states his Father as John, but I believe it was also Lemuel and I
believe his Mother was named Matilda.
Lemuel marries at least two times that I am aware of, one
to a Catharine A. (Stephens) and they have at least two
children that I can account for. Catherine is born 1828 in New York City and died Sept. 14, 1852, She and Lemu
This is the information I have;

I am researching the family of William Smith, judge of the supreme court of
the Province of New York and member of His Majesty's Privy Council before the
Revolution, father of William Smith the historian who became the Chief
Justice of the Supreme Court in Quebec after the Revolution. One of the
elder William's fourteen children, Elizabeth Blanche, married John Torrans, a
merchant from Ireland who was in business in NYC in 1755 and probably before.
They settled in Charleston, SC in 1758. We have th

Hi Michael, I am just a bit curious about your Smith line, as mine also
comes out of the Brooklyn area. Most of the men in my line were names
Lemuel C. Smith. Other family names are Coles, Stephens, De Bary.
Any connections? Bonny

Hi everyone, I have hit a brick wall on my Smith's. I have Shorton Smith
born about 1760, possible in Dutchess County, NY. His parents could have
been Isaiah and Joanna Davis Smith who were married in Dutchess County.
I know that Shorton Smith signed up to fight in the Rev. War in Poughkeepsie.
Would love to correspond with anyone who might be researching this family.

Hi George,
More about my family.
I had mentioned that the last I found Caleb in the NYC directories was
1822 and you wrote that he moved to Williamsburg ca 1850.
Interesting. His daughter, Amanda married Thomas Smith who was of
Scotch ancestry whose father was James L. Smith who was a publisher and
printer, like Thomas. I found both of them in the 1850-51 NYC directory
as doing business on Nassau but living also in Williamsburg.
Amanda and Thomas had many children before he died. The first were born

I know Mary H. Smith married a gentleman by the name of

like to find the Mother of Mary Henrietta and any other information
that is available.
Thank you & God Bless,

Hi Juliet, My Lemuel was born 1815 in Boston and then I assume with his
family came into NY. I believe Lemuel's Father was also Lemuel and his
Mother Matilda. I have a document with these names, but really cannot
confirm that at this time. I can account for 2 wives for Lemuel, Catherine
A. (Stephens) and their children, William C. Smith and Jennette Edgar

Hi Bonny,
I, too, have a Lemuel Smith b abt 1720 and his wife was Martha, last
name unknown. I only have one child so far, Dr. Merritt Smith who is in
my line. Where did your Lemuel live? Mine are from Flushing NY.
To the rest of the list: FYI we are already numbering over 50
subscribers so this might be a good time to call a role call.
