3. [SOMGEN] Sisterhood of Mary & Martha, Berlin PA Brethren church [1]
The spring 2000 issue of Berlin Historical Society's MEMOS includes some recipes taken "from a book which had been compiled by the Sisterhood of Mary and Martha, Brethren Church, Berlin, PA." No date on the book. Featured recipes included came from ladies named Emma Cober, Mrs. Henry Menges, Mrs. Wilson Boyer, Mrs. Walter Johnson, Mrs. Belle Hoffmaster, Mildred Deitz, and (my interest) Mrs. John J. Kimmel. Since I follow the Kimmels, I'd like a better idea of when this churrch group existed a

5. [SOMGEN] Re: SOMGEN-D Digest V00 #77 [1]
Hi, I wondered if someone could look up the name Glesky in and around the Somerset County area. The family lived in the Shaw Mine area and work there in the early 1900's I believe. This may not be the original spelling of the surname. I have been told that is was original something like Kalminski. I don't know the spelling for sure. I would appreciate any help that anyone could give. Thank you ahead of time. Rose Marie Weisner Glesky Romag162@aol.com

8. Re: [SOMGEN] Re: IMHOFF (and others) lookup [1]
I can only offer conjecture. . . Facts: Mary "Polly" Imhoff married James Wells on 3 Feb 1822 in Somerset County -- most likely somewhere in Allegheny twp. These folks are my ggg grandparents. Mary was born in 1802. Mary's father was Henry Imhoff, born in 4 Oct 1767; her mother was Juliana (surname uncertain), born 10 Apr 1765. James grew up in the household of Jacob Weyand, a tavern keeper in Somerset County. In the 1820 census (which appears to have been done door-to-door), the Weyand and Imhoff ent

You should contact the libraries in question and ask the reference librarian if they will do lookups. At one time, the reference section was referring folks to a volunteer who would do lookups and make copies (for a small fee). I do not know if this is the case anymore and I cannot remember which library did that. My guess is that the librarians do not do lookups. As far as the register of wills - you need to call and get the procedure to getting a will copied. There is a fee for this and a specific pr

On-line, I would say your best source is via the Brethren e-mail list, which is very active and helpful. One of the participants is the librarian at Manchester College, a Brethren college in Indiana, and she has access to some great sources--congregational histories, obituaries in old Gospel Messengers and other old Brethren publications. Other participants include some well known genealogists and historians. Not to mention some ordinary folks like us, some of whom have Cober/Cover links. Sub

25. [SOMGEN] CLEMENCE, Ida [1]
I am out out state. How would I go about getting a copy of my grandmother's birth certicate with all the information about her parents, etc? Recently I sent for my own birth certificate for a passport and the copt they sent had none of this information. Do I send away to the same address, but ask for full information? Let them know it is for genealogy? Do I have to prove she is deceased? Is the cost the same? She was born February 8, 1902 in Hooversville, PA. Thanks in advance for your help! Carla Denhar
