I received the genealogical portions of a Petition to Appoint Guardians.
The petition was requested by Mary Houpt (deceased husband John Houpt)
for the minor children, John and Mary Ann Houpt. Also petitioning on his
own behalf for a guardian is Charles Houpt, a minor child over the age
of 14. This is dated 18 June 1819.
Mary requests that a Jacob GRAFT be appointed as guardian for the minor
children and it is granted by the court.
I can't make a connection to my own Houpt line and was wondering if

I just rec'd an obit for one of my ancestors and it states he was buried at
the Jennerstown United Church of Christ Cemetery. There is no listing on the
somgen website or on the Jenner Township page.. Could the name have been
changed and if so can anyone help me in finding this cemetery? Thank you for your
help. Sincerely, Lori Hiner
As I was browsing the newspaper this week I learned there is a much cheaper way to mail genealogical information Just ask for the "Media Mail" rate. You cannot place a note, letter or any other material in the package but the rate is worth it.
The media rate applies to books, film, manuscripts, sound recordings, videotapes and computer media that includes compact discs, digital video discs and diskettes.
Wish I had known that years ago--could have saved some money.

I am still trying to find Henry and Elizabeth Baughman of Larimer Twp.,
Somerset Co., PA. I have checked every cemetery list, looked for land
deeds, called funeral homes, looked for obituaries with no luck. I did find
a deed dated Dec 29, 1944 where Henry and Elizabeth are granting and
conveying their land formerly known as the Baer farm to their son, John H.
Baughman for $1.00. They also reserve to themselves, and the survivor of
them, the right to use and occupy the dwelling house in which they now

Hello listers,
I need your help!
I am the primary volunteer for the cemeteries pages on the Somerset County
Website. Much of what is up there has been transcribed from the WPA
records which were made in the 1930's. This means that the directions are
also from the 1930's. And for any of you who've looked at some of those
directions, you know they aren't very helpful in the modern day
world! They say things like "on the John Walker farm 20 rods northeast of
the barn." And nobody knows where dear ol
Hello everyone,
I want to apologize up front, I am sorry to appear dense. This apology because I need to ask what for many will appear to be a stupid question. I hope someone will assist me.
How is a Borough/Boro and Township different?
Thank you for your patience and assistance.

Winchester, would have known that I would be traveling in a northerly

Dear Listers,
I'm told that Abraham Kimmel, son of Johann Philip, was born 1764 in
Stonycreek Twp., Bedford Co. / Somerset Co.
He was married to Elizabeth Heiple c 1790 in Bedford/Somerset. It has been
stated that she was born 24 April 1768, died 24 May 1836. At this point, I
don't know who her parents were. What would be the likely place to look for
information re: her marriage, birth and death dates/places?
Is it possible there are intact records from the early Brethren Church, which
