Hi I only know on my side Sorrell that they had a grant to buy land in Ontario in1800.They had once lived in New York.Their are alot of Sorrells in Ontario Canada .Alot related to me but I have no info past that. Years ago my father-in-law Alan Sorrell and family (his wife Elizabeth and children Richard, Mark & Julia) visited Great Waltham in Essex, an area where many Sorrells have come from. In the church they found the tomb of a Richard and Elizabeth Sorrell of Hyde Hall, who died over three hundred years ago, leaving the house to a local doctor. Dale_Thanks for the info. I will copy up a list of Sherelda (Sorrell) Otis children. Today I have 2 doctor appointments to meet. I met a lady yesterday at the LDS Center and she was researching the Sorrell roots and we are distant cousins and she lives in Peru, In. where I live. I never knew her but we were so excited and can't get over how small this world is. My father was Renzie Jackson Otis, s/o Sherelda. Well I'll get back to you later. Thanks Ian, for your interesting piece on Hyde Hall Years ago an Aunt found the family tree for this family in - Rev.Morants "History of Essex" In the British Museum Yes it reads as if the heir, a nephew John Sorrell HAY left if to the Physician, Dr Tyson. His Heir was Richard Tyson. Also to quote from the above book -The SORRELL family had another estate in this Parish, not far from How street called "Hill House" Christopher, Robert & John Sorrell held Manor of Rectory of Gt. Pete, I have a Mary Ann BAILEY, who was born about 1824-1825 in Bath County, Kentucky. Unknown parents, but they were both born in Virginia. Mary Ann married James C. SORRELL on June 27, 1848, in Bath County, KY. Their children were Armilda, Thomas and Nancy SORRELL. Mary Ann and James and children left Bath County in about 1856 and relocated to Falmouth, Pendleton County, Kentucky. We have just joined the mailing list, my wife being an English Julia Sorrell whose family originated from Great Waltham in Essex, although she was brought up near Southend. Her father was Alan Sorrell, a British Neo-Romantic artist who was very well known for his archeological reconstruction drawings of castles, Stone Henge, Roman Britain etc. He married an artist, and my wife Julia and her brother Richard are both artists.
