Hi Bill, That sounds like the family I am looking for. Are we cousins? My Grandfather was rather shaky on the 2nd husband's surname. I am currently working with dates from the memory of Lemmons elders, so 1889 rather than 1910 could be correct, what is your source for that info? Toni-How you doing. Good to hear from you. You are correct, of course, that all sorts of religious changes have occurred in all families over the generations. I was only trying to point out that since the subject Peter Sorrells used a very Catholic custom, mostly from more or less southern Europe, including France of naming children that he was probably Catholic. Which at least is a clue that probably, but of course not necessarily, he was not a descendant of the Virginia Sorrells. Dale

Hi All. I am facinated by the recent comments on religious/denominational backgrounds. I am descended from the Rutherford County Sorrels, and am particularly interested in coming up with their religious background. Any suggestions on how to go about this? 17. Re: [SORRELL] Sorrell [1]
It would perhaps be wise to add a note to this Sorrell thread about the Sorrell name. The various variants of the name have little or no relevance. In my own Sorrell family starting with William Sorrell born c1730 in Virginia, there is a line, mostly staying in the north central area of Kentucky and the areas of Ohio around Cincinatti, Dayton etc who still use the name Sorrell. My own great grand father, also descended from William seemd to use Sorrell but his sons used Sorrells with the s. Another br

John-Personally I have always believed the William Sorrell of the 10th Virginia was the father of Elisha and Richard but have been unable to prove it conclusively. At the moment I am working on another lead in which you might be interested. One of my correspondents found that the SAR has a record of a William Sorrell buried in the Valley Forge area of Pennsylvania. He died in 1778. All of this makes sense although I have yet to find the record that is supposed to recount this information. Thus it fits

I recently purchased the Sierra software product Generations, Liberty Edition geneaology database and it's really cool. Dale, My relationship to the "Sorrell's is through my wife who is a descendant. You are correct in that no proof exists to our knowledge of William as a Revolutionary soldier. Just family tradition. It was passed on through her grandmother and she has been gone a long time. ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Saturday, April 21, 2001 7:40 PM Subject: Re: [SORRELL] Sorrell > John- If you are a descendant of a William Sorrell, Revolutionary soldier, > ca
