Hi from South Africa! Sorry to do this to you all, but can't get into a specific server for Lesley - maybe I can reach her like this! Just read with horror the general note from Conrod Mercer about some email you'd received and want to hold out a cyber-hand to you. For something around 2 years, I've been at the receiving end of a series of abusive/obscene telephone calls - it's arguably the worst emotional stress a woman can experience, a kind of mental rape that I guess even the most empathetic of men is

I thought of just sending this letter to William Jervois, as he probably has the most information on this family, but I'm posting this query to the list in case anyone else has something to share. I'm looking for information on William Ogilvie. According to family notes and a paragraph I found in "Heraldry of South African Families" and "British Families in South Africa" both by C. Pama, this is what I know: William Ogilvie was born 1765 (one source said 1795) and died 9 Dec 1850 in Claremont, Cape

18. CAWOOD of Keighley, Yorkshire [0.966229]
I am searching the family CAWOOD. I need info on ancestors of David Cawood born c. 1777 d. 1832 South Africa. He came to South Africa from Keighley, Yorkshire, with the 1820 Settlers. His father was Joshua who died at the age of 50, his mother was Mary Gibson d.1818 aged 86. They are both buried at Keighley. I also need any info on David's tenth child, David b.c1818 in Keighley, who is not documented in the SA Genealogies. Thanks Betty Murray Randburg, Gauteng South Africa

Hi all subscribers, I'm back from my trip on Wednesday to Bloemfontein (1 900 km's further) . . . just for the day and what great fun it was! We left at 05:45 and arrived "down" there at 10:00. There we visited the exibition at the War-museum. A while ago Barend Venter from Pretoria submitted info to me on the Venter-family. There, I came upon a bible which belonged to this Venter-line (of my wife). In the front I found the inscription of the mentioned members of the family. Obviously, I completed a form,

25. Court of Justice -CJ [0.966229]
To the best of my knowledge CJ refers to the archival group containing records of the Court of Justice. It dealt with civil and criminal cases and was also the Appeal Court for judgments handed down by inferior courts. The composition of the members of the court, which functioned from 1656-1828, and its jurisdiction changed often. The Fiscal appears to have been the most important personage. He was appointed by the Lords Seventeen of the VOC and looked after their interests. Burgers representing the co
