Some of you may be interested in a recent paper by Louise Guenter entitled "The British community of 19th century Bahia: public policy and private lives". The paper offers a good overview of British community life in Bahia in the first half of the 19th century - and there are lots of names for ancestor hunters!

Hi:
I have found 2 postcards that were sent from someone in Chile to my uncle,
Edward Leonard FERRIDGE, while he was in England in 1913 attending to his
father's estate. They are written in Spanish. I can scan these. Is there
anyone who would consider translating the messages for me?
Thanks in advance

The list is being very quiet so thought I would add something for the
archives.
I have found with help from other Downes descendants, the mother and father
of Jane, Joseph, John and Jonathan DOWNES who were all in Argentina at some
time. The parents were: Jonathan DOWNES (1736-1818) and Phoebe FENNA
who were married on 5 June 1768 at Bunbury in Cheshire. Both Jonathan and
Phoebe died at Sheppenhall (in Wrenbury Cheshire) and are buried in Bunbury.
Jane DOWNES baptised at Bunbury on 25 June 1772, mar

Greetings
I am a New Zealand whose Burton ancestors (originally from Lancashire,
England) immigrated to New Zealand about 1911. On the way out they stopped
in Brazil, namely Rio De Janeiro, for a year or two. During this time in Rio
my grandfather Thomas Burton was born. I would like to find out more
information, if possible, about their time in Brazil but am not sure how. I
have been to the LDS church and looked at some of their family history
records but haven't found anything useful at this point.
