I'm seeing an article dated 9/24/1905 that references a "Pointe Celeste Plantation" in Mississippi that was quarantined because of yellow fever. The Italians who lived on the plantation boarded themselves up in their houses and warned all who attempted to enter they would kill them.

Celeste Plantation was the largest sugar plantation west of the Mississippi before the Civil War. Celeste Lauve lost the property because of the war, and it's my understanding that the plantation was inundated when the Mississippi changed course. It no longer exists.

(There was also a Col. Payne Whitney Plantation out of Thomasville, GA - FYI)
I'm showing 2 obits out of LA that reference the Whitney Plantation. Antoine J. Zeringue (d. May 31, 2005) was born on the plantation. His mother was Augustine Troxclair of Mount Airy, LA, father, Aubert A

The one mentioned in TX was in an obit for a man who was actually born on the plantation, E.W. Phillips, dated 4/13/1956. He was born Nov. 30, 1885, "on the Woodstock Plantation between the Red River and New Boston in Bowie County." (They might be referring to Avery, TX)

Actually, I didn't look it up. I gave the short link to the long link provided in the post previous to mine.
I found a Woodstock Plantation in SC and one in TX but can't find one anywhere else. I'll look up the new surname, Cockerell, you provided and see if I can find anything that way.

Stubby,
Thanks for your time. I have the same information. I know that
Trooper sold the plantation to someone with the surname Land and/or
Trooper's father-in-law, surname Cockerell. He was heavily in debt.
That seems to be all I can find though.
Thanks for your help.
