Hi Mary K., That info. was sent to me from a very good friend of mine who is a TUCKER, and related to the John Carter and Rebecca Stuart line. Rebecca being a daughter of Charles Steward born ca. 1689 and wife Ann Pace of Isle of Wight, Surry, Brunwick Co VA. I can4t recall that tome number but I have it. To make a long story short, my Tucker friend copied part of this from "Hinshaws", a pretty complete QUAKER book. Quakers kept wonderful records. Hello Larry, Mary Stewart, dtr of Richard, is in the Stewart Clan Magazine on page F109, but no details are given other than the date of her marriage to Jacob J. Smith, 9 April 1806, and that they resided in Nicholas County. As you don't mention that, perhaps that will help. Perhaps his widow applied for a Revolutionary pension? Dear Tina: Welcome to the list and to the addictive world of genealogy. You will find the listers here to be supportive and quite helpful in showing the ropes for Stewart research. They are one group of folks you can count on to not roll their eyes and change the subject when you talk of your family history. The item you spotted at the bottom of Christina's message is a "tagline." It is one of 10 that rotate at the bottom of the posters' messages. [They do not display in the Digest version.] ===

Mary, Thank you so much that is very interesting information. Now the spelling on his tomb says Christopher Stuart instead of Stewart. Does it happen to say that his correct spelling of his surname is Stuart or Stewart? No big deal just wondering. Also I am still looking for any clues on my Thomas Stewart born in Massachusetts. Thomas claimed he was born August 1849 but no record for a Thomas Stewart that year but there was a Thomas F. Stewart found born May 11, 1846 Father Nerry R. Stewart

Lauren's remarks on locating female ancestors whose married or maiden name may be unknown are pertinent to my experience in locating my wife's grandmother, who disappeared from the family in 1915, leaving two small children in the care of her husband and his parents. I knew her maiden name, Elizabeth Willie Sledge Lyles (her parents called her Willie), and her married name by my wife's grandfather, William Stewart. And in the course of a year-long investigation, I knew that she had remarried and had two o

Gayle, I know I have Stewarts that were in Dade Co., MO in the 1800's, but to date I haven't started researching them. The most important to me at the time I found her was Sarah 'Sally' Stuart Evans Standifer Daughtrey. You can see she was married 3 times and the third marriage was fortunate for her. She married William Daughtrey in 1834 in Madison Co., AL. They came to MO in 1839 and were prominent people in the Greenfield/So. Greenfield area for many years.
