Still looking for the parents of Joshua Dawson Stewart.
Hi, I have a cousin who is trying to find info about her father. This is all
she knows about him:
Clarence Lafitte or Lafaytte Stewart, son of Andrew Jackson Stewart, mother
unknown, she died at age 22.
Clarence was born in Picayune, Miss., probably between 1895 &1900. Served in
some branch of service, stationed in Newport RI 1916(?), m Louise Haywood
Anthony of Middletown RI and they were divorced. He was married either
before or after as he had another daughter named Gwen. (Gwendolyn?) He

Hello Sean,
No, you're quite right, this family isn't in the SCM. If you can't find Ellen Jane
Wilson in the Index of Spouses, chances are Robert isn't there either.
Have you tried at all subscribing to one of Rootsweb's mailing lists? The
NYC-Roots list is very active. Since Ellen Jane came from Staten Island, and they
lived later in Hoboken, it's quite possible that Robert was working in NYC. You
have censuses, and city directories that might help pin him down. I don't know

For those looking for Rev. War land warrants, I recommend the website for the
Kentucky Secretary of State
http://www.sos.state.ky.us/
It has two links: 1 on how the land patent process worked and 1 for a copy
of the land warrant (with signature). If the process wasn't done properly,
the land was lost -- that's how George Washington lost thousands of acres in
Ohio.

If you can find an original X on a record, you may find that it has it's own
distinct form that makes it a signature. The ones copied in the books
always look the same.

Please lets get back to genealogy. I am searching 12 different names besides the Stewart and variants thereof. My email volume is enormous and the it takes time, although just a little to delete each one of these cute-sey messages. But when you start receiving all the superfluous information, it really becomes a burden. If you would like to find opinions about combining the spellings, one message from the list owner for people to respond back to him or her personally would have been sufficient. I think
Hi Della,
I'm copying this reply to the Stewart list, as there are a lot of people
on it from that area, I believe.
In the Stewart Clan Magazine on page F209 (Vol. XXX, No. 3, September
1952) there is an article about this William, but it doesn't give his
forebears. It follows through his son Moody Birt Stewart and Moody's
son Jonathan LaFayette Stewart, and that's all. There is also some
informationn on H202 and I109, but not directly relevant to William.
"William Stewart, born about 1766, is said to
