Bless you for all the work that must have gone into indexing the "Stewart

Hello Dennis,
Newton Stewart is down in Dumfries and Galloway, in the little pocket that
sticks out to the left, straight down from Glasgow to the coast. It is near
Stranraer, the ferry port for Belfast, among other things. It would
definitely qualify as southern Scotland.
Regards,
Mary

Hello Dan,
Looking through the indexes of the Stewart Clan Magazine brought forth these
references to the family Cobb. I have a feeling they aren't useful, but it
might give you a lead as to where the family was situated in general.

Hi
I have been trying to find where in Scotland my G-G-Grandfather Peter Stewart
came from. All we where ever told was that he came from the south of Scotland.
Last Friday I found his obituary. It said that he was born "Newton Stewart,
Scotland". I have check a current atlas and have found the following, Newton
near Cambuslang, Newton near Pennymore and a town called "Newton Mearns".
He was born in 1824. Does anyone know where this town is (or was) or where I
could find a map that I could try and find i

Hi John,
No, the SCM information doesn't have Silas' wife's last name, so I can't
help at all on this one. There are two other Judds in there:
Judd, Jerusha, CT 1793: B146
Judd, Urich, Dr., NY 17--: B221
But I doubt that will lead you far.
Sorry!

Hi, Carol:
The names you mentioned don't sound familiar to me.
Most of what I know about my William Alexander "Alec" Stewart is "family
tradition" and what a cousin has been able to glean from his Civil War
pension papers, which seems to have confused things even more because of
several of the men having the same first name and middle initial and not
knowing what their fathers' names are. Although the only place in MO that
we KNOW our STEWART family lived, there is mention in the pension papers
about my
Hi Sue,
Mary Queen of Scots had one son, James I of England. Down around Charles II
it gets complicated -- there were a number of illegitimate children.
Without being particularly positive I believe that they have all been traced
and there are a few people living today in Europe that claim to be
descendants of this line, with varying degrees of success. (The main royal
line died out with Henry, who became a cardinal in Rome and is buried
there.) But none of the people who ended up in the States are conn

were noted as born in Tenn.

Hello Kevin,
In the Stewart Clan Magazine on C62 (issue of June 1934) David Stuart of
Marlboro County SC has a paragraph. His parentage is not known. The
article comes from "Kinfolks" by Col. William C. Harllee; no other explanation.
"David Stuart came from the highlands of Scotland to North Carolina shortly
after the battle of Culloden, 1746, according to the best information
obtainable. He was in Richmond [at that time a part of Anson] county, NC,
prior to 1756, it is said, although no record has bee
