Dear Listers:
In responding to a question I received after posting re
the start-up of the Stewart-DNA-L@rootseb.com, I came
across something that may be of interest to those Stewarts
that may believe to be of Melungeon heritage.

Unfortunately, the project does not have their own web site
listed at this time, or I would provide it rather than the
lab link.

Last night, while hunting for new information on my William Stuart (VA), I
ran across yet another spelling of his last name: Steuart. I also found some
data for him while browsing the STEWART-L archives. I would like to add my
"Yes" vote for a combined list. I think it would save us all a lot of time.
Thanks,

Hi list,
Lately I have been seeing some post on the Stuarts from Wythe Co VA. I know of one line that were in Wythe Co and they migrated to Cocke Co TN. This was David Stuart and I believe there was a William as well. These Stuarts were allied with the WARD family in Virginia. Some of these Stuarts in Wythe may have stayed behind in VA. My Stuart family moved to Wythe Co Virginia after the Civil War, 1860's. They lived in Speedwell, VA. Prior to this they lived in Henry, Patrick, Grayson, Carroll Co V

Dear John:
I may agree, in some respects, that a combined list for
all Stewarts might be an idea to entertain. However,
for whatever reason there are 3 different spellings
that have their own list. Stewart/Steward/Stuart.
There is also the Clan-Stewart list that John began
last December, not realizing the members and officers
or representatives of the societies: CSSA and Stewart
Society in Edinburgh, already had been using the
Stewart/Steward/Stuart lists for about 6 years. There
is little to no traff

I am looking for information on (Dr.) John Stewart/Stuart in New York and Sussex County Delaware where he died around 1704/1705. He was born around 1660 in Scotland. The descendents eventually found their way to Elkhorn City, Kentucky (Pike county). My Great-Grandmother was Lucy Stuart/Stewart from this line. Any information would be helpful.
Thanks,

Hello to all:
It is my pleasure to announce that after a long wait the
Stewart-DNA list has been approved by Rootsweb. They
have set ground rules that we cannot post any marketing
messages for any laboratories, nor can we post the
price/cost of testing to the list. This does not mean
that we cannot discuss pros and cons of the various
laboratories. The Project Managers can reply off list
regarding costs. I will tell you it is less expensive
to submit your DNA under a project than on your own.

Hi Cinde,
I wonder if you know whether any of your Stuarts migrated from the
Augusta/Bath area into Washington and neighboring counties in east TN. (I
know the gwins and others did). I have a Susannah Stuart who married Stephen
Redman there 5 Sep 1792, and am trying to find parents or sibs for both, as
well as investigate whether their families came there from the Shenandoah
Valley as so many did. No lack of Stuarts in Washington Co., I just can't
connect the right ones. There were Redmans in Augusta as we

Hello:
If I might add...
The Stuart/Steward/Stuart lists focus is on the SURNAME in
**all** locations.
Yes, it seems, from recent statistics that I ran for the
Stewart list, so far, that the majority of posts probably
do have an American research focus. The reason for this
is partly due to the fact that those with other-than-American
research don't stick around and continue to contribute
their voice to the list when they do not see like voices
here. I have persuaded some on these lists and others
to re

Stuart (Point Roberts, WA)
Combining lists makes sense so far as spelling goes (since usage is so mixed) --- but I'd like to see the lists split along Scotland/US lines.
Traffic for Stuarts in the US seems high enough to support its own list and almost all I have
