Thank you so much all of you kind people who sent fascinating bits of
information on Wortham Manor etc.and a lovely picture. The Fearons had
obviously left (died?) by 1937 which explains why my mother had no
contact with the family after my father's death at the start of WW2.
Gratefully, Mary L. (Melb.Aus.)
I am new to the list and am seeking information on Wortham Manor which I
believe is near Diss.It used to belong to my Great-aunt Edith and her
husband Paul FEARON subsequently, after WWI it went to their son Paul J.
FEARON.Is it still a private residence? Are there still FEARONS there?
Can anyboby please tell me anything about the place?

Is somebody able to look up the 1861 Census please for GRAYSTON,
probably in Heveningham. At least that's where Sarah is as a Widow in
1871 when she said she was 79 and born in Darsham. As yet I don't have
confirmed birth or baptism records so I'm interested in whether James
is still alive, their ages, and birthplaces.
Thank you

I can add that I've found a 9 year old working as a `fisher boy'
on a herring boat out of Lowestoft, and plenty of 11 or 12 year
olds as ag.labs.

I had a look at the Norfolk Marriage Index 1801 -1837 as it contains NE Suffolk marriages but yours were not on there. I have included the Norfolk grooms in case it helps later.
You should be able to hire the BTS film from a Mormon family history centre if you are not near an English record office and that will have the place name or you may be able to look up the film on www.familysearch.org and the film details should name the places covered by the film no. if it is one of their microfilms.

Do telephone them first, they have odd opening hours! ..............
Sorry Jean,
I meant to say ... telephone the Museum first as they have odd opening

You will find the opening times for the SRO in Bury in the message - they
are even open all day Saturday.

Folks,
given the increasing seriousness of ISPs NOT delivering list mail for
not-very-good reasons, I'm giving the list a review every week or so of
the extent of the problem on a more consistent basis. I'm hoping this
will do two things:
1. increase the degree by which subscribers do NOT miss mail (by
accessing the list archives for missed mail); and
2. illustrate which ISPs are more prone to delivery issues from
time-to-time than others.
These statistics ONLY deal with ISP delivery problems, NO
Hi
Could someone who is very kind please check the 1851 Census for Withersfield
for the following two families, which I have extracted from the 1841.

George is still with them.

I am just starting to research my Turner family from Thelnetham.
The eldest daughter Thirza b 1837 married James Smith 1837 of Hinderclay and I have them on all the censuses.
I haven't got very far with their children yet
James born circa 1856/Florence b c 1863/Ada [Kate] b1868/Grace b1870/Harry b1874 all in Hinderclay/Alice b c 1876 in Hoxne.
James and Florence have gone by 1881 and I cannot find James on any later censuses yet.
All except Kate have flown the nest by 1891
Actually they all have
Hi Kris,
Where in Lancashire?
My husbands forebear in Devon appears to have been born in Liverpool in 1789 and we are unable to prove-as yet-who his parents were. There is a possibility that his putative Devon family were up there for a few years. The father was a stonemason and maybe was working on new docks. I need to find out more historically.
The cotton mills needed engineers etc.
80 years later my Suffolk ag labs were taking themselves off to work in the pits in Yorkshire.

Very Kind of you to let the New members and those new to the habit of
genealogy into the knowledge of where, and how, they might check whether the
problem is with their own Server, or that of Rootsweb, Pity it could not
have been done with a little less sarcasm, and a little more sensitvity or
good grace..
I do hope it has not put anyone 'new' off posting to the list and
potentially becoming a valued member of the community of the Suffolk List.

Hello,
I am trying to locate my ancestor John GARROD on the early censuses for
Shotley, Suffolk.
John was born about 1807 in Shotley and married Dinah.
I would be very grateful for any help in locating them.
Regards,
Mark.
