1. [SXP] House in Haslemere? [1]
This is a MIME encoded message. --=_13ca5d40812f1993d9c3ae73b22b944a Content-Type: text/plain; Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Greetings, I have been provided with a family photograph c.1940, taken in front of a house identified as "Oakdale". The person that provided the photograph believes this is most likely to be somewhere in Haslemere or Camelsdale, Surrey. Can anyone possibly confirm this? Or perhaps even tell me if it still stands today? You can see the photograph here: http://www.well-and.co.uk/W

7. [SXP] Lookup request - 1851/1861 census Worth [0.977594]
Hello List, I have a lookup request in the 1851 and/or 1861 census for Worth, Sussex. I realise that such a lookup might be a bit difficult because of a lack of indexes. I live in Tasmania, Australia, and would be happy to do reciprocal research for anyone who has research interests in Van Diemen's Land/Tasmania. My request is as follows: I am trying to locate the family of a Stephen and Ann BURBERRY who lived in Worth. According to the IGI this couple had eight children baptised in Worth between 1825 an

10. Re: [SXP] Post 1901 census records [0.977594]
Hi Chris, I think there is no alternative but to search the original BDM indexes on fiche, manually, quarter by quarter. They are available for that period in lots of libraries, Family History Centres and genealogical libraries but without knowing where you live I can't advise. If you are out in the sticks you might have to hire a researcher. Hi Listers, Subscribed on the off chance my great grandfather and maybe his family were in the area during the first half of the 19th century. I have been searching for the origins of my family for some time but have only been using the Rootsweb for about a year. I lost interest after hiting brickwalls. My interest was revitalized after moving to Japan when I was contacted by a cousin I didn't even know I had. But despite discovering more than 300 names contacted with the family, the progenitor of the f

14. [SXP] Owning up re Culmah or similar [0.977594]
Some-one asked for a look-up of a place name either "Culmah" or similar. I took a print of the message with me to Lewes Record Office and didn't find anything in any of the place indexes but I'm afraid I have mislaid the original message. I can only offer in mitigation that the record office got very crowded and the lady fitted in on "my table" may have grabbed it by mistake. My apologies for bothering the list but I wanted to let the writer know that I did try.

Don't forget Canada! I believe that, around that time, many more Brits emigrated to Canada than to the US - including my maternal grandparents.. The Commonwealth connection, you know. Hi Angie, Unfortunately the Love Lane Cemetery did not open until 1898, so it was a little after your relatives died. There are a lot of other things on the CD including BMD's from the 'Faversham Mercury' between the dates 1879-1882, and also Bapt. 1620-1801 Marr. 1620-1754 and Burials 1620-1773 for the Church of St Mary of Charity at Faversham. I looked at all of these for Bloore and Eltham, but no luck. Christenings, Marriages and Burials for 14 villages and two Maidstone churches are also on the CD, so

Hi All, many thanks to everybody who emailed back and told me where Trotton was. Further question, has anybody any idea where a Lord Egremont lived in Sussex - this might prove the connection to Trotton if it's the same place - and no, I can't claim any relationship -unless he seduced my 4grandmother and that was why she was packed off to Somerset! (only joking in case his descendents are reading this1) Liz.
