Hi All,
I was fortunate to get to the Swan Cemetery, in Greene County, Pa. yesterday
afternoon. I have discovered that most of the dates listed in our history
sources are about 20 too soon for birthdays. Any, below is what I have on my
cemetery page on site:

Looking through the various postings I noticed the Cambusnethan notice in

Hi Christine,
Well do! I can only imagine how difficult it must be to try to break
down the abbreviations we have for states. I don't remember all of them
myself and I live here!lol I know probably most, but some do escape me,
usually I can figure out what state they are referring to by the
abbreviations, but I would be challenged to know the abbreviation for
each state! So unless your familar with the states it could become quite
fraustrating I'm sure. Here is a list of our States and their

Hello hunters,
This is my first experience with this so please be patient.
My g-grandmother is rumored to be Native American. I'm trying to find out
for sure. Problem is her name was spelled Swan but she showed up with a
group of Swanns.
Does anyone know of an American Indian named Martha Swan who was born in
what was then Virginia in about 1850. She lived there her entire life as
far as I can find out.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi all,
I have traced back my SWAN line to my GGG Grandfather William SWAN, but
cannot now get any further information about him or his parents.
He "appears" in Lowestoft,Suffolk and gets married to Lydia BARNES on
1st April 1795, the Banns having been read in December 1794 at St
Margaret's, Lowestoft. We deduce he was born c1871. I assume that he was
resident for a while in the Lowestoft area before getting married as the
Banns for the marriage state "both single persons and of this Parish".

Oral family history says Swan Street, Manchester, England, was named after
an ancestor of my gt-gt-grandmother Susannah SWAN. She was born in about
1820, Wilmslow Cheshire, England, and married John BOLSOVER, a fustian
merchant working in Manchester.
I know Susannah's year and place of birth only from the 1881 census, and
have been unable to find anything about her origins.
I shall now try another line of enquiry. Does anyone know who Swan Street
in Manchester was named after?
Regards
Andy Bolsover
I am a descendant of Margaret Jane L. SWAN, b. 1816 in
Knox Co. TN. She married Daniel Ragan HOOD in Feb 1835.
Supposedly she was a sister of James Denny SWAN, who
married Daniel Ragan HOOD's sister Isabella Jane HOOD.
Supposedly they were children of George SWAN and Elizabeth
GRAHAM of Knox Co. TN, but I still haven't been able to verify
this. George SWAN was the son of Joseph SWAN (1715-1806)
and Catherine DENNY ( - 1818) of Letterkenny Township, Franklin
Co. PA and Knox Co. TN.

this may have been a Catholic or Episcopalian or "other", but presuming

was eldest, then nan and the rest, in no particular order, included Dorothy

Hi All
I am new to the list and thank you for the invitation.
I only have one Swan link and that is a certain Robert Swan who we believe
was a Captain of a ship and who died at sea.
Robert was possibly married to Isabelle Scott - possibly from Dumfries or
Aberdeen. Isabelle was born about 1858.
Any help will be appreciated.

Dear Lister's,
Hope to find some fellow Swan Member's on this very dreary and cloudy

Frederick. Elizabeth and her son Frederick were last seen in 1912+ in

Hi Everyone,
The following is a forward to the list from Christine Normington at:
christine.normington@nationwideisp.net who was having some
e-mail address changes in the works.
She has a good point. Those of us in the USA have been harangued into using
state abbreviations and Zip Codes until it is second nature. For the many,
over 1/6 of the list, that are in various other countries it would be a
challenge.
I too am guilty, and will from now on spell out the state names.
