I, and many others, are researching the family of Joseph Reynolds and his
siblings. Their parents were Joseph Reynolds and Sarah Perkins of VA.
Prior parentage has not been fully documented to my satisfaction. Joseph,
and many of his siblings moved to SE KY after Joseph's birth in 1805.
Anyone who has further information on this line would help me greatly by
contacting me directly at: dudpa2000@earthlink.net . Joseph's son John
went on to marry Ruth Helton/Hylton whose family also has roots in NC and

Hello to the list~~
Am seeking where my GG-Gpa Henry Harry HENSLEY is buried. At the time of his
passing- during the 1860's - he was living in Flag Pond, Washington County,
Tn. (This is now Unicoi County).
Am also seeking where my GG-Gma Mary (Shelton) HENSLEY and her 2nd husband
(married 1879) James. W. HENSLEY (Henry Harry's nephew) are buried. Mary was
a widow again by 1890 as she applied for Jame's Civil War pension.

James Gill was a soldier from Knox County, TN during the War of 1812. He

I am descended from William Hay and his wife, Mary Howell. They are in
Saxe-Gotha, Richland County, SC by 1748. He states in his request for
"relief" after having built a mill on Hay's Mill Creek, formerly Raiford's
Creek, that he is "lately of Virginia." I assume that he was born in
Virginia, but I cannot determine the names of his parents nor in what county
he was born. I have studied many Hay families in VA during the proper time
period, but I cannot find evidence of William's connection to any
Hello All:
I would like to announce that I have decided to create a new section on the
Hills and Hollers website. It will be entitled Recipes from Yesteryear
(Mouthwaterin' Recipes from the Hills and Hollers). Next to true genealogy
work, I'm partial to country cookin'! Most important aspect here is to
preserve the historical recipes of our past generations.
IF you are interested in submitting your recipes or other cooking ideas,
stories, hints, questions, etc. for inclusion on the website, please cont
Hi Barbara,
This is might be a stretch, but you might try posting your Simpson query to a
HARMON/HARMAN message board. My ancestors, Hans Peter Harmon and Margaret
Choulyn, lived in this area, first the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia to
Overton County, TN. and I can tell you that one of their children was John
Harmon and that he did have a son named John--I"m guessing officially "John
Jr." I know it's a common name, but the time period and the location are
right for my Harmons, so you may be on th

I'm seeking information on my g/g/g/grandfather, Elisha Adams (1766 - 1858). He is reported to have married Susan McKenny, and they had at least three sons, William, Prior, John C., and Elisha, Jr. There were also at least three daughters, names unknown. Elisha first appears in Lee Co, VA tax records around 1799, and bought land near Jonesville in the early 1800's. He moved to Whitley Co, KY in the late 1840's where he died in 1858 at age 92.
At one point there were three Elisha Adams in Lee Co: Elisha
I am trying to trace my Henry Simpson b. 1806 Va according to 1870 & 1880 Census and NC in 1850 and TN in 1860 Census, and who was an orphan in 1817 in the minutes of the Greene Co., TN Court Records. He was indentured to James McPherron in 1817 at the age of 11 years old and referred to as an orphan. Henry was given a horse, saddle, briddle worth $75.00, three suits of clothing and one for working, food, lodging, clothes landered and one year of schooling, but nothing to indicate what he was to do in ret

Litteral - Lindsey (my maternal g.grandfather, son of Daniel Litteral and
Elizabeth Burk), I am told left Morgan County, KY sometime after my
grandfather McClellan was born in 1885 and his wife, Mary Lacy apparently
died. He appears again in the Mingo County, VA census in 1900 with his
second wife Flora and more children. I also find Flora in Pike County, KY
in 1910, but apparently my g.grandfather is deceased. I find no record of
his marriage to Flora nor of his death in eithe
I am trying to find the parents of William France, b. about 1760, who
first appeared in Washington County, VA in 1784, and in Lee County, VA
in 1803. He married Elizabeth Heiskell and they had 9 children. He
died 1834 in Lee County, VA.
He was either a German immigrant, or the son of a German immigrant,
likely coming through Philadelphia, and the name was probably spelled
Frantz at that point.
There is a John France who signed a petition 10 Dec. 1785 (against
religious assessment bill) in Washington Cou

My brick wall is the parents of George W. Brooks born in Washington Co. VA.
on Feb 19, 1855. I am fairly sure he was born at Saltville, VA as I remember
my grandfather saying he was born at Kings Salt Works. Based on the
research I have done, this was one of the names of Saltville as it was
established by a person named King, the salt mines that were there.
The family story is that he came to Johnson co. KY with an aunt when he was
about 12. I can find no record of him in Johnson Co until 1870's. Wh
As soon as I posted data about one of my brick walls, I discovered I had made
an error. It was not David Hay who signed The Cumberland Compact. It was
the father-in-law of his son, David, who signed it. He was Willis Pope, whom
I mentioned in the original posting. The original David Hay, father of David
and son of William, died in Washington Co., NC (TN) on the Watauga about 1780
before his father's death. His widow married second there, Matthew Talbot,
also originally from VA.

Hi, I am still here, although not very active, no time anymore, but still
looking for Canter, Whittaker, Perrigan and Jackson in this area. Would love
to exchange info with others seeking same. Grateful to the list .I have found
much by working with all of you.
Hello All:
My original concept idea for this list was for it to be a lively discussion
of the genealogy and historical records, stories, etc of the area. For the
most part, the idea worked well for a time after the inception of the list.
In the past six or seven months, the volume on the list has dropped
considerably to an almost non-existent state.
I take responsibility for being a list admin in absentia. It certainly was
not my intent. I am currently working on a Master's Degree in middle school
