Hi all,
A while back, I sent off for a copy of a birth certificate that I
thought might belong to one of the children born to my husband's
great-grandparents.
As it turns out, this particular birth certificate is for a different
Taffet line altogether.
The child is listed as "Sahra Taffit", which I figure equates to "Sarah
Taffet"; all of the birth certificates I have found so far for children
of my husband's great-grandparents are in fact listed as TAFFIT rather
than TAFFET -- that is, all except the ve

Hello subscribers,
I just got the following message and wanted to pass it along quickly.
I'm not at home right now, so don't have easy access to my data to do
any quick lookups, but I believe that the Alfred mentioned below is the
one who married Jennie Daar. Judy, do you or your relatives know
anything about this property?

Dear Mary: This woman does not know the entire history of this property.a Alfred is the cousin who was married to Jennie Daar. Isidore changed his name to Michael when he came to the US. My understanding is that Michael Taffet( nowdeceased) went to Poland to to try to reclaim the property, but was unsuccessful, possibly because he had received some small restitution from the communists. Alfred and Saul are also deceased.Saul's descendants may be entitled to something because Israeli's were not included
Hello subscribers,
It's been a while since the last message went out, but then again we are
a very small list.
I just received the 1910 HeritageQuest Census Index for New York City
today, and have been trying to find my husband's ancestors. The names I
seek include Taffet, Siegel, Rubin and Homlevsky/Hummel. I found his
Siegel ancestors, but have not found the others yet.
As for TAFFET, there are 3 Taffet's listed in the index:
Surname: TAFFET
Given Name: SIMON
Age: 64
Sex: M
Race: W
Birthplace: AUST
Mary,
On my side of the family we had a Frank Taffet in Belleville, NJ. He was married
to Fannie and had 3 children (Nita, William and Seymour). Seymour is still living
(retired doctor) in NJ/FL. Frank was part of a group of brothers that came in the
late/early part of the century. They included Morris, Sol, Frank, and Joe.
Hope this helps a little.

Hello subscribers,
I am sending this to each list that I administer, so I apologize in
advance for the unavoidable duplication for those of you on more than
one of my lists.
I just wanted to let you know that I will be away from early Tuesday
morning (too early to suit me!!!) until late Friday evening, and I
sincerely doubt that I will have access to e-mail during that time.
So, if you have any problems with your subscriptions, please contact me
this evening (mdtaffet@syr.edu), or wait until Saturday.

Harvey,
Did the Frank Taffet in your family live in the Manhattan area? The only
people in that index were living in either New York County (Manhattan,
Bronx), Kings County (mostly Brooklyn), and perhaps a few other counties
as well (maybe parts of Nassau & Suffolk counties). All were in New York
State -- none in New Jersey.
When I get a minute, I'll find the record for Frank and see what it has --
could be the same person, but could be a different person as well.

Hello subscribers,
First let me apologize in advance to those of you on more than one of
the lists that I administer for the inevitable duplication, as I am

Hello all,
I have just learned from Rootsweb that all mail sent to Rootsweb mailing
lists between the hours of 3:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. MST today (11/18) was
lost.
That translates to 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST (my time zone).
If you sent mail during that time that you haven't seen come to the list
yet, you will need to re-send your message as all mail was lost during
that time and is not recoverable.

Hello subscribers,
I just learned on the Jewish Gen discussion list that there is a
searchable database of burials in Austria. The URL is:
I don't know how complete it is, but I already checked it and found 6
TAFFET listings in it. Three of them must be part of the same family
because they were all buried in the same plot. The other three are
singletons.
First the family:
Helene Taffet died at 65 years of age on 01/12/1935; buried 01/14/1935.

Hello subscribers,
I just realized that the Alex Taffet listed there is also in my file. He
is another of my father-in-law's first cousins.
Alex Taffet was the son of David Taffet and Becky (unknown maiden
surname). He was the grandson of Joseph Jacob Taffet and Fannie Landau
(most likely maiden surname).
Alex died in 1968.

Mary, There was also Charles Goldstein, married to Nita Taffet, who
fought in WWII. He went into Greenland, landing on the ice cap and
helped capture the weather station from the Germans. FYI: I visited
the site in 1974 and the German machine gun pillboxes (Krup engraving)
that Uncle Charlie described were still there. Bob

Hello subscribers,
I'm quite surprised to find that there is only 1 Taffet found by the
search engine present on the World War II memorial website. The address
for the search engine is:
The one listing for Taffet present is for Seymour Taffet, MD, who says
he landed on Omaha Beach.
Surely there must have been other Taffet's who fought in World War II!
My father-in-law is one of them.

There is information about other Taffet's in World War II avaialble in a
different government-sponsored database. This one is part of the NARA
website:
If this URL wraps around in your e-mail program, you'll need to paste it

A search on Taffet in this database (Electronic Army Serial Number

Bob,
Thanks for your note.
I misspoke when I said that my father-in-law fought in World War II. In
fact, he wasn't called up until 1946 or 1947, after the hostilities had
concluded. But he is still considered to be a World War II-era veteran.
