Margy,
I apologize for the slip - yes, I meant Dempsey Tarver (not Wactor). I am
related to Dempsey through his daughter Elizabeth who married John Wactor.
My grandmother who died at 100 years of age last New Year's Eve knew
Elizabeth Tarver Wactor and after her husband died, she moved in with my
great grandfather William Dempsey Wactor and family. My great grandfather
died when I was about 10 or 11. Too bad I didn't get interested in
genealogy until high school.
According to my grandfather, h
Sharon,
Do you think there is a possibility that your Benjamin was married before he
married Judith Cockerham and fathered Dempsey?Dempsey was born in 1800 and
my Wilson was born 1804.Cuz Jean said it was a possibility and I am
beginning to believe she was correct. Why would Lott Tarver be given
guardianship of his children?Lott was a brother to Wilson,my line. This would
explain why Dempsey and his children were not heirs to old man John
Cockerham's (1735-1844) estate.

As I tried to explain in one of my previous posts regarding the possibility
of Benjamin Tarver being married prior to Judith Cockerham and the father of
Dempsey, James Jenkins, and Westley; the following points need to be discussed
in further detail. I have tried to make this connection, but abandoned it for
the following reasons:
1) Benjamin Tarver is shown on the 1800 S. Carolina census in Barnwell
district with a wife and no children.
2) In various accounts, Elizabeth Tarver, the oldest ch
I've speculated on this very same thing myself. Old John Tarver was also a
witness to Dempsey's marriage bond. I would like to add that Dempsey
Tarver's estate records appear in both Franklin and Amite Counties. He must
have lived right on the county line.

Hi, Carroll.
As you probably figured out, I remarried and my name is now Logan. We've
also moved from Dallas to East Texas just north of Hawkins.
I'm sorry to hear of Jean Barger's death. She and I communicated on and off
through the years and she sent me most of her Tarver information which I
still have. I have more information on the Tarver line but never had the
proof needed to establish that Benjamin was the father of my Dempsey Tarver
as my grandfather claimed.
Now that we're settled and fin
Carroll,
I think you might have something there. Something we can surely
investigate. We need to see what we can find on Tarvers in the Carolinas.
