Is this normal? While I never had that many names in a single dataset then running TMG v1.2a, I had one with well over 20,000 names. Optimize seldom ran for very long -- something around a minute (more or less) is my best recollection (using a 33MHz 386 with 8MB RAM). Sounds like you have hit a snag somewhere.

Many thanks to Lee and Allen for their helpful replies. I think for the moment I will use the Note Rsrch option, copying or moving information from the Research Logs. This list is great, and so is TMG - wish I had started with it rather than UFT. 7. Re: TMG-L: Printing question [1]
Lewis asked about printing a chart on another computer and Bob gave some advice: First option: Printing to a file -> this is to wordprocessing software, so you need to know what is on the other computer and print to that software. Second option: Print to printer/plotter -> you need to have the driver for the other printer/plotter installed on your computer and set up in control panel (win 95 etc) so that it prints to a file. When you print in TMG select that printer to print the chart. Take the resultant
8. TMG-L: Display Genetic Flags [1]
I am trying to create a report of all the ancestors (within 6 generations) whom I have flagged with a type of "Syndrome" flag with value of ?YN--about 30 individuals have a "y" and I would like to display flagged people in a form that would denote relationship. They are not direct ancestors, and I cannot seem to create the proper filters to make this evident. I think there is a genetic trait manifesting itself, and it would be very interesting to see the how thread developed. Any ideas? Sorry to be so m

Bud you should receive this as a private mailing as well as through the list. Go to View/Page Source. high light and copy the address then copy to a standard reply. Joanne, Your question involved getting Name-Var tags to print in a List of Events. I don't think you can do it, since they aren't primary tags. 12. TMG-L: Married names [1]
One of the reasons which persuaded me to buy TMG (in addition to documentation of events) was the facility to search for women under their married surnames. I appreciate that TMG handles Nam-Mar differently to Nam-Var but I am frustrated by my inability to achieve two apparantly simple tasks. 1) Filter my records and make a list of women who are married but do not have the Nam-Mar Tag set 2) Apply filters (eg birth year) then print out a list of women with their married names (I dont mind if they print tw

Thanks Jeff, this is much better than anything I was able to create. Gary 9 Aug 1999 Baltimore The following approach may give you a report close to what you want: First you will need to ensure that the default sentence for your Marriage tag includes a reference to the principal's age. In playing with my sandbox dataset, I redefined the default Marriage tag sentence as follows: [P] <(at age [A])> married [PO] <(age [AO])> <[PARO]> <[D]> <[L]> Now run an Individual Narrative report defined as follo
17. TMG-L: Trouble with non-primary parents in Visual ChArtform [1]
Hello I've been trying to learn Visual ChArtform, but I see that there are things that could have been better. I tried to make a descendant tree for John and Marit. Among their children we find Ole and Martha. Ole married Lena and Martha married Olaf. One of Martha and Olaf's sons was fostered by Ole and Lena (and I've therefore used the "Father-fst" and "Mother-fst"). BUT, when I try the descendant tree, I see that this "common son" is mentioned both places; both under Ole&Lena and Martha&Olaf. Well, sayi
18. TMG-L: God Parents [1]
I wish to add Godparents to some baptisms I had already entered. On my first attempt to do so, I tried to enter a married couple as Godparents to a child for which I had already entered tags for birth and baptism. There seemed no option the enter a married couple at one time. First, I tried to figure out if there were any difference between the Godparent tag and Godfather/Godmother tags. I couldn't see any. Hence, I tried the Godparent tag first and entered it off the person view to the child. An options sc
19. TMG-L: Error 41 Memo file missing/invalid [1]
#41/MEMO file is missing/invalid./MKIDX/223 I received this error message following a shut down due to a power failure. One user suggested creating a new dataset of one person, then merging with my old dataset. Can I do any harm trying that method? I have sent the message above to Technical help, but am wondering if I can get a quicker answer here from those who may have had this problem and tried this solution.
