4. TMG-L: Re: TMG-L Gedcom Tags [0.967922]
I have a similiar problem. I need to create a gedcom that can be imported into PAF version 2.1 for a cousin of mine who does not use TMG. Everytime I tried to import a gedcom into PAF, a lot of error messages kept appearing in the note fields of PAF. The culpret was the "LVG" tag or Living tag. I've tried disabling the Living tag in the flags section of TMG but that didn't work and I even tried switching the settings around in the GEDCOM options and that didn't get rid of the LVG tag. I finally used th

6. Re: TMG-L: Date Formating [0.967922]
I am new to TmG so I am not specifically talking about dates in that program. However I have prepared many genealogical data bases in other formats and I always use an eight digit number yymmdd for the date. If year, month or date is unknown I use double 0. A Sept unknown date in 1999 is 19990900. 18730000 is a date in 1873, with neither the month or specific date known. I avoid the problems of variable size fields for date data, always reserving 8 places in any date field.-dale - -------------------

I suppose that GEDCOM Explorer would work but the main problem noted by your exchange on FOW-L (the married names getting in the way of primary names) can easily be fixed by choosing "Names: Primary only" among TMG's GEDCOM export options. I am not aware of any problem communicating marriage events between TMG and any other

10. Re: TMG-L: Duelling with the picklist [0.967922]
Allan, this is a relatively easy one... Hit F2 to go to the picklist, then right away click F2 again. Type in the name you are trying to go to, then hit enter. This will take you right to that name, without having to go letter by letter, waiting for each letter to be found. - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- TMG-L The Internet Mailing List for The Master Genealogist To unsubscribe: Send an e-mail to majordomo@doit.com with 'UNSUBSCRIBE TMG-

How do I arrange >the children to appear after the marriage date? TMG displays data in a chronological order as you have seen. Unfortunately, we often don't know the dates of many events. However, we can usually estimate a date. But because our estimate are often just plain guesses, we may not want them to print. TMG provides the Sort Date for this purpo

16. RE: TMG-L: Backing up TMG to CD-R/W [0.967922]
Janis, You should have a program on your machine named "Adaptec DirectCD" in a folder named "Adaptec DirectCD" for making CD-R/W disks that can be used directly by the Windows Explorer or by any application from their file open or save dialogs. Double click on the Adaptec DirectCD icon and it puts an icon in the task bar. Put a CD-R/W in your drive and then right click on the task bar icon for DirectCD. Select Properties for information or once it has detected a disk in the drive it will also have a "For

18. TMG-L: Adoption confusing [0.967922]
Thanks to Ken and others who have made my transition from UFT to TMG so easy and enjoybable. This is really an amazing list! I have a great aunt who had three children "out of wedlock". The father's identity remains unknown. These children were adopted by her sister and brother-in-law. Any ideas on how to record this information to reflect the natural parent and the adoptive parents correctly? Thanks folks! 19. Re: TMG-L: Attaching sources [0.967922]
I think this works only if the citation for every event is the same. For example, if you are quoting a genealogy which has the person's events on different pages, you will need to add those pages to the citation for every event, even if you add the source itself to those events at one fell swoop on the add a person screen. Of course birth certificates, death certificates, etc. have to be added separately - to their respective events. However, the F3 and CTRL-F3 are used a lot. :^} Bud Dorr Casco, Maine Ji

23. Re: TMG-L: Place list [0.967922]
It is done thru a "List of Events" with the filter being the place names. To do that you go to focus/filtered group: County =...... and State = You can generate the report to screen or file. I am at work trying to verify some info that has made it to my dataset by way of books (books without sources cited) about a couple of lines of my wife's that made it to Connecticut. We are living in CT and it would seem natural to check the local records. So I recently generated a list of events that had happened in CT

25. TMG-L: VCF problems [0.967922]
I thought I would use the holiday to "discover" VCF. Can anyone help with the following "features" which all arise from a 5 generation descendant box chart with birth group, death group, burial group & marriage group entries? - 13 of the 65 names lose their surnames on the way to the printer (a Canon BJ5500) - yup, they're there on screen but not on paper! - Automatic wordwrapping seems very hit & miss. Again, on the screen I see 3 lines of print; on the page, I get 2 lines of print and one blank li
