1. [TMG] Adding Meat to the Bones [1]
If one is writing a story or book, these sentences begin to add some meat to the bones. If as sentence reads: At age 28, Mary became a widow. . . then I think the thought (subconsciously) breezes through one's mind: Poor woman, she probably had
2. [TMG] Index Codes [1]
Since they say a book is only as good as its index, I followed this thread on indexing with some interest. It wasn't mentioned what happens to people not in the database. Some have said to avoid having children in a database, they enter the children's names in a memo for a particular census. If children's names, or anyone's name, is entered in the <[M]> part of a sentence construction, will they be indexed -- if they are not in the database? Or is it necessary to put Index codes in. I am try
3. [TMG] Digest in Hotmail [1]
Just wanted to let folks know that the Digest mode in Hotmail is really quite a simple affair. You get one "page" with a list at the top of the subjects and persons sending the question. Then you just scan down the page to read all the messages. They are all listed one after the other. No clicking on each individual query. One can quickly scan through all the messages. The drawback is. . .you can't possibly save any messages because your account size is limited (the free one anyway). But I j
4. [TMG] String Cites [1]
I'll have to chime in and say to Cheri and Terry that I LOVED their idea of string cites. I, too, had nothing to contribute and so didn't comment. I'm clueless as to how to set it up - just know I would like to have it. Actually, with their detailed examples, I have now just typed my own in the Citation Detail - although it is a bit of work. Go for it! Barbara _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://w
5. Re: [TMG] Witness GEDCOM [0.971148]
Hi. For those interested this is my new way of organizing the GEDCOM into a NOTE instead of EVEN. Comments? The information in this NOTE was extracted from the submitter's database. The original database (The Master Genealogist) does not allow this information to be transmitted by GEDCOM because of the possibility of confusion or error. If the following is unclear in anyway, please contact the submitter for clarification. The information was originally in an Event form. It contained one or two Principle

8. RE: [TMG] (W/w)itness - terminology (was: Long discourse...) [0.971148]
Actually I tried and the built in roles Principal and Witness are special. the principals at the top of the box can not select the Role Witness, and a person in the other Witnesses box can not select the role Principal, so Witnesses can not be Principals, and principals can not be WITNESSES. -- Redirector to current best: Richard_Damon@iname.com Home: rbrdamon@rcn.com Work: rdamon@BeltronicsInc.com > -----Original Message----- > From: Caroline Gurney [mailto:caroline.gurney@ntlworld.com] > Sent: Friday,

12. [TMG] FTST Import problem [0.971148]
I downloaded and installed FTST last night. (At the same time I ordered TMG Gold from Wholly Genes.) FTST seems to work all right on the sample dataset, but I have been unable to import my data into it. _____ I have an FTM (I understand it is version 6) backup file I got from my brother and have tried twice to import. He burned the file onto a CD-R for me while he was here visiting. He has never had a problem with any of his data files. The file is: THOMAS.FBK 199,806 KB FTST works a long time on

Hello! Any tips on what format/size to to scan genealogy pictures as? Also, I have been scaning them to separate folders to organize them but wondered if there was a better way to organize. My method is something like this. a folder with my mothers last name and a folder with my fathers last name. In my mothers folder are subfolders with her siblings names then also subfolders with her mothers last name and fathers last name. I think you get the idea. The only problem is there are some surnames that are co
